Golfers of all ability levels will often say they take pleasure in hitting a round early in the morning, before going out to the office or starting their leisurely weekends. Simultaneously, some of the greatest golf courses are in cold weather regions where it’s imperative to bundle up while playing on the course. When the greens are still moist and the air is crisp, golfers can stay focused and play their best rounds. In order to play their best, golfers have to be prepared with appropriate attire to stay warm while they play. Here are five ways to stay warm on the course.

If the early morning golf game is forecasted to be exceptionally windy, put on layers of clothing to avoid the cold. Thermal shirts are appropriate and keep the body temperate and comfortable. Thermal underwear can also be worn when playing a game with windy conditions. These are affordable and can be layered under any outfit.

One of the most straightforward ways to stay warm is to keep hands and fingers snug with golf gloves. Look for styles that are made of high quality components to endure all types of weather and also feature leather grips to improve golf swings. Some popular retailers include Wilson, Nike and Adidas.

Feet should be another concern when trying to keep warm. Search for extreme sports socks that retain the heat and insulate while providing the best possible comfort to the foot and heel.

While some golfers feel more at ease in a skirt or shorts, ladies golf pants are more fitting when playing in colder weather. Look for pants that are made of fleece, thick cotton or windbreaker materials to stay warm.

Golf jackets are another important piece of clothing to have while playing early morning golf. Shop for jackets to throw on during the game or look for more fashion forward designs to add some character to the game. Tracey Lynn Golf is a popular women’s clothing designer that keeps function and fashion in the forefront. Her jackets are constructed with wicking fabrics and UV protection, making jackets extremely comfortable and easy to take care of.

Did you know that trunk rotation of the golf swing puts enormous pressure on your lower back? That’s why the back problems are the most common type of golf-related injuries.

Weekend golfers who have poor swing mechanics, lack of flexibility and core strength are more likely to get lower back pain. Golfers with poor swing mechanics tend to swing harder, causing larger spinal loads and increased muscle activity, resulting in more stress to the lumbar spine. Pro golfers who are physically fit and have good swing techniques are not immune to lower back problems either. Pro golfers tend to develop lower back pain from overuse due to repetitive one-sided movement.

Golfers who have degenerative disc disease or arthritis in the lumbar spine are more susceptible to overloading their spines. The discs lose their shock-absorbing capabilities, and loads are transferred to other structures within the spine that are unable to withstand these forces. A poor golf swing causes more shearing, compression and rotational forces on the low back. Can you believe that your body weight is forced through your spine eight times as you make contact with the ball? So, if poor mechanics are combined with a weak back, you are more likely to cause yourself a significant injury.

Poor posture is the most significant contributor to golfers’ lower back pain. Poor posture is caused often by muscle imbalances or visa versa. Poor posture and any amount of muscle imbalances cause biomechanical fault to your swing thus increasing risk of lower back injury. Golf swing requires that all elements of the posture have to be properly maintained throughout the swing. Golfers with a good posture swing better – and without back pain! Believe it or not, a proper posture has a positive influence on power production to your swing, too!

Many players with lower back pain are looking for an easy fix to treat their back pain. Some players are taking extra amount of painkillers before game while others try to get quick-fix with chiropractors. It’s true that these “treatment” might help reduce pain temporarily, but they rarely solve the underlying problem(s). If you lack flexibility on your shoulders, spine and hips, weak core muscles, poor posture and muscle imbalances, your back pain is not going anyway. Pain will persist until you decide to concentrate more in caring the cause of the pain, not only symptoms.

Pilates is a good exercise program for people with lower back pain, especially for golfers. Several studies have shown that golfers with low back pain have decreased trunk and hip strength, decreased hamstring flexibility, as well as trunk rotation to the right is also limited. Those are the main problem areas that we are focusing in Pilates - and much more. Pilates is all about body alignment, deep back and abdominal muscles strength, joint and spine mobility and stability, as well as soft tissue flexibility. A well-trained Pilates instructor can identify your musculoskeletal imbalances and provide personalized golf-specific Pilates exercises to improve your posture and overall conditioning specific to golf. Correct posture and good muscle balance will help you to get into proper positions which are required in effective golf swing. And the best part – they will lessen your lower back pain or even help you play pain-free!

A slice can discourage any young golf enthusiast from embracing the ideologies of the game; hence the need for golf tips slice rides high on the list of the game. A slice is one the problems that affect the flow and character of the ball leading to lower marks/ scores.

It has turned out to be a wearisome issue that has substantially affected amateur golf players. when the ball is hit and violently and swings due the impact of the stick, flying away from the player on the further right playing area (for right hand golfers), its said a slice has occurred. Since a slice is known to peel off yards on the distance the ball has to cover and increase strokes, its imperative that you learn some intriguing about golf tips slice that can help your fix them.

When you want to fix a slice; first, close club face a little in a square angle as you take care of the ball. When you leave the face club closed, you'll be able to open club face in a very comfortable angle when you swing backwards. It's also easy for you to reinstate or maintain your downward swing in that starling square position.

Another way to fix a slice is by straightening the swing you make. A reason behind the movement of the golf ball from side to side is simply because the ball spins sideways. The side spin of the ball comes into play especially when your swing behaves outside in. when swings begin away from you and hen moves towards you, the ball automatically moves off target spinning sideways hence dooming it in a slice path. It's therefore important to understand the emergence of a slice and its fixation so that you claim to have learnt the game of golf.

You can make amends by trying to maintain those swings in line with your body movements. Put a notepad below the back of your arm so that you are sure of keeping the swing within its brackets and not extending it any further hence staying safe from a golf slice. Ensure you try to exert pressure on the swing so that it gets back into position as you perform the downswings. By embracing these golfs tips slice, you'll rapidly evolve into a great master of the game golf and your swing will always be above board.

Slicing the golf ball once is embarrassing. Slicing the golf ball swing after swing is humiliating. One of the fastest way to improve your golf game is to ask a golf swing coach about golfs tips slice. The next best way is to study and understand the correct golf swing mechanics.

Do you have these 3 problems with your golf swing: 1) inconsistency; 2) slice; 3) distance?

Happy Thanksgiving’s Day! Today let us learn how to play 460cc Driver.

Tee the Ball Higher

The old adage has always been that the top of the driver should be about halfway up the ball when it is teed up. However, with a 460cc driver, I like to see you set the ball high enough on a peg such that the top of the driver is no more than one-third of the way up the ball. Of course, this means that the standard 2 1/8-inch tee will not be long enough to accommodate. You will need a tee at least 3 inches in length, but likely a little longer than this.

Move the Ball Forward in Your Stance

(Towards your left foot for a right-handed golfer)

The notion of playing the ball off of your left heel is no longer valid. We want to hit the ball on the upswing, thus increasing launch angle and decreasing the ball's spin rate. In order to do this, we must move the ball forward in our stance. For some golfers, it will be enough to play the ball off of your big toe, while for others it may be necessary to move the ball all the way up so that it is positioned outside of your left foot. Experiment with different ball positions – but, whatever you do, move the ball forward in your stance!

Set Up to Hit the Ball on the Center of the Face

Most golfers set their driver on the ground at address. This results in a high percentage of driver shots being hit on the heel-side of the face, especially when we tee the ball higher. Test yourself this way: The next time you are at the range and set up to hit your driver, once in the address position stretch your arms out and move the club up to the ball's height. Notice where the ball is going to contact the face of your driver? On the heel side – or possibly the hosel – of your driver.

This is a very common problem for golfers – and it's an awkward adjustment. The solution is very simple, however. Instead of setting your driver behind the ball such that the center of the face is aligned with the ball, move backwards a couple of inches (towards your back) such that the toe of your driver is aligned with the ball. Now do the test again. Stretch out your arms and pick the club up to the ball's height. Is the ball aligned with the center of the driver face? If so, put the club back down and fire! If not, keep moving back until it is.

Don't worry that once you set the driver down it doesn't align with the ball. The ball isn't on the ground - it's three inches above the ground!

Hit the Ball on the Upswing

The driver is now a specialty club, much like a putter. Our set-up, ball position – everything is different from any other club in the bag. You shouldn't be hitting the ball at the bottom – or apex – of the golf swing like a fairway wood. The ball should be struck past this point, on the upswing. This will lead to a higher launch angle and lower spin rate – which is how we are going to hit the ball farther than we ever have before.

Now in the Northeast/MidAtlantic region of the U.S., the weather has cooled and golf season is winding down, or is it? Maybe you won't be able to play your local golf course (Top 10 Strangest Golf Courses) once the biting chill of November hits, but that is no reason to cease working on your game! From now until about mid-December, the weather will still be reasonable enough in the southern MidAtlantic, and still close enough to take a long weekend to play a little golf. After that, as the season wears on, the further south you must go.

If you don't have the opportunity to get away for a few days, find your nearby indoor golf range to hit a few balls (Winter Golfing Tips) and maybe work on your short game. Or, check out where you can play a round of golf on an indoor golf simulator.

Most importantly, this is the time of year to work on body improvements that can help your golf swing. As we get older, we tend to lose flexibility and strength if we do not keep up with our workouts.

I believe that this time of year is the best time to really go to work on your body and your golf swing! By combining strength training, stretching, and golf specific exercises along with a thorough understanding of what you want to do with your golf swing, you can make significant improvements in the off season. Then, when Spring arrives, you will have full confidence in your swing, and you can focus on your short game, where you will be able to drastically reduce your scores!

Go see your golf instructor now to set up your plan for Winter Golf Training!

You are an amateur golfer who became addicted to the sport recently. You realize that you will never reach a level in which you would turn pro, compete on tour and become a multi-millionaire. Instead you’ve become the weekend golfer who plays with several other buddies at your local country club, partially for enjoyment.

While you play for fun, nevertheless the natural competitor in you wants to win those bets every now and then with your buddies for low score during your round. What you are seeking is a solution to help you improve. You want to develop a better golf swing, proper technique being the key which will help you lower your handicap.

Try to envision what happened during your last competitive round with your friends. One hole during that round really cost you. What happened on the tee shot? You remember, am I right? You were down two strokes from the guy leading in your group, and you were standing ready to hit your shot off of the 16th tee box. You were a little anxious, hoping to make up at least one of those strokes. So, taking out your driver on this par-4 hole, your goal was to put just a little bit extra on that shot to carry the ball in flight longer than usual. What happened was you tried to muscle up, but did so incorrectly. This led to your normal swing motion to become slightly off-base. The result was that the ball sliced off-course and landed in deep rough, instead of in the fairway.

At that point, you were probably frustrated. I know what it feels like, believe me. Instead of possibly making up one shot to your opponent, you probably will lose an additional stroke as his tee shot landed squarely in the center of the fairway. You ask yourself the following. If I need to, is there a solution out there that I can learn which will allow me to strike my tee shots with more velocity? Could I try to get that extra 15-20 yards off of the tee box when the occasion calls for it?

Well there is a solution. What you as the amateur golfer needs to know, is that there is one factor regarding your body position throughout the entire swing process. Most amateurs do not learn this correct body position involving your core, which is a prime factor for developing a consistently grooved golf swing, proper technique being implemented.

Besides providing the solution which will improve an amateur golfer’s overall game, this system will also show you how to get those extra yards added on to your tee shot when necessary. It has helped tens of thousands of golfers worldwide. Using this system, many golfers have seen 5, 10, up to 15 points shaved off of their handicap.

So, do not allow frustration to overwhelm you. You should not believe that you will never improve in the game of golf. Learn the proper technique with regards to your golf swing. It will enable you to one day attack that crucial hole late in a round. You will be collecting money from those in your group when you achieve the low score during your weekend rounds.

With regards to one’s golf swing, proper technique is instrumental in allowing an individual to reach his or her potential in the game. Now that you have read this article, I believe that you want to discover the one bit of information that will accelerate your improvement as a golfer. Please visit my website at: http://www.abettergolfswing57.net to get your hands on a proven method that has worked for thousands of golfers like yourself.

Driving the ball longer is the ultimate goal for most golfers, and there's no doubt we all can improve our distance off the tee by making a few simple adjustments.

The following golf tips will absolutely improve your driving distance potential ...

1. Turn on the power:
During the backswing turn your right shoulder away from the ball while shifting your weight and the club head back (right handed golfers). This puts you into a powerful position at the top of the backswing.

2. Generate power to the ball:
Much of the power in your golf swing comes from a solid base. As you swing the club down from the top of your back swing feel as though your front leg is as solid as it can be. At impact your front hip should be turning out of the way so you can straighten the front leg upon impact. Allow the force of your swing to let the hands release the club head into the follow-through position.

3. Loosen up:
Before your round, hit as many driver shots as possible (15 to 20), making a full backswing and full follow-through. These full swings will get your body loose faster than any other exercise. Also, end on a good shot, as it will be the last thing you remember before you hit that opening tee shot.

4. Chin at the ball during impact:
Keep your chin over the ball while swinging though the impact zone. Allow the force of your swing to pull your head up after you hit the ball, as this will keep you "behind the ball" upon impact. All good players do this to generate power.

5. Maintain your spine angle:
Power comes from releasing your coil at impact. When you hunch over the ball you lose your coil and decrease swing speed. The proper address position is to stick out your butt, straighten your back and bend from the hips. (Feel like you are about to sit in a chair.) Try to maintain this position through the entire golf swing. Begin by taking easy half swings to get the feel. As it becomes more comfortable lengthen your swing and increase the speed.

Experiment with these tips and find the one or two that help the most. Practice those and see your distance increase.

The best golf swing for you and your golf game is far removed from what you have been told by the experts in the golf industry.

You only need to look at the golf swings of the top players and you will see the huge disparity between the way they all swing the golf club. Each swing is so individual, like a signature, that after watching the top players in action for some time, either in the flesh of on television, you would be able to identify who is swinging even if you only see their silouhette.

Ernie Els, Vijay Singh, Davis Love, Tiger Woods, Padraig Harrington, Retief Goosen all have quite distinct swings. Don’t get me wrong, all of these swings have much in common, particularly when it comes to the fundamentals like set up and alignment, grip etc.

But there the similarities end and each swing is different and reflects the players physical shape, their natural tempo and a lot of what they picked up when they first swing a club.

The lesson for you, the amateur golfer, is that your swing must reflect your tempo and your physical shape and you should not beat yourself up trying to swing the golf club like your hero, who is generally a finely tuned athlete with remarkable hand/eye co-ordination who has been reared on the practice range.

So find a golf swing that you are comfortable with and suits where you are in life now and enjoy your golf..this is the best golf swing for you and don’t beat yourself over the head with golf swing analysis.

The correct golf grip is probably one of the most overlooked fundamentals in the game of golf. Far too many amateurs are unaware of the importance of this. If you don’t have the correct golf grip you run the risk of having a very flawed golf swing and will create some shots that will damage your round every time out. Follow this step by step plan and you will have a solid technique to work from which will improve your game no end.

1) Take the club with your top hand and place the handle diagonally from the top join of your index finger down through your palm and a few centimetres higher than the your wrist (little finger side). Now wrap your hand around the club. Your thumb should be resting on top of the club.

2) You now have two choices (the most popular grip techniques) - the interlock grip or the overlay grip. First of all rest your bottom hand on top of the thumb of your top hand - use the lifeline on your bottom hand as the point at which you place it. At this point you can either rest your little finger of your bottom hand on the index finger of the top hand, or, interlock the same two fingers. Try both out and see which is more comfortable for you. Neither is better than the other but you want a feeling of unity so that you feel you can control the club.

3) Now you may need some slight adjusting of both hands. Locate the ‘v’ between your thumb and index finger on both hands. They are upside down as you look at them - have the point of the v on both hands point toward your chin.

4) The importance of point two is that you can alter the type of shot you create depending upon the position of these v’s. The further toward your back shoulder you point them the ‘stronger’ your grip is and the more knuckles you will see on your left hand. This can help create more distance but has been known to add more slice. The opposite tends to reduce distance and create more of a hook. More advanced players play around with this to help fashion fade or draw shots. Be aware of these factors and play around with this to see what suits your game.

5) The correct golf grip is not complete without applying the right amount of pressure. It is too tempting to really grab hold of a club and choke it to death - you’d think that would help you get more distance. Wrong. Tense muscles reduce the freedom and rhythm of your swing which is where real club head speed comes from. A well known analogy for the right pressure is to hold the club as if you were holding a small bird without trying to hurt it.

Use these pointers as the basis of a solid and correct golf grip. If you’ve been gripping it any old way then you will notice a big difference in your play and will become a better golfer for it.

For many golfers, a big concern is how to hit the ball farther. Typically, a good swing with solid fundamentals will naturally allow you to hit the ball far provided you have good strength. There are a few important keys that you can specifically work on to hit it farther.

The first key I recommend is having good angles in your setup or swing. A good setup will have good knee flex and a correct bend from the hips with the weight on the balls of your feet. A good setup is a critical component to not only swinging more on the correct path but also hitting it farther. You want to have a good shoulder turn on the backswing where your shoulders turn a full 90 degrees. This will allow you to swing the golf club over your shoulder and maintain good angles at the top of your backswing as well. From there, you'll be in a powerful position to swing back down through the golf ball.

Second key is swing speed. You want to make sure you are swinging fastest at the point of impact. Many golfers make the mistake of rushing their backswing, making it too fast and then from their it is forced to slow down coming into the golf ball when it should be speeding up at this point. One key on timing of your swing is the backswing should be three times as long as the downswing. Tour players were studied and it was recorded that they all have this correct tempo where their backswing all are three times as long as their downswings. Make sure not to try to swing too hard from the top of your backswing. Often times golfers try to hit the ball too hard resulting in lots of problems when hitting the golf ball. You want to have a nice and smooth transition and allow the swing speed to increase as you are nearing the impact position. This will maximize your chances of hitting the ball longer and straighter.

Third key is creating lag in your swing. You do this by hinging your wrists in the backswing which allows you to build up "leverage". Then on the downswing your hands will actually lead into the golf ball before the club hits the ball. With the hands slightly ahead at impact, you'll be assured of a solid strike which will make the golf ball travel farther.

About the Author:

All great golfers will do certain things really well in their setup and their golf swing. Common elements that all the pros have include a good setup. A fundamentally correct setup consists of having a good grip, correct alignment, good posture, as well as having good ball position in your stance. Often times just making adjustments in your setup will be half the battle in getting your swing more on the correct path. When you are misaligned in your setup, you'll have to make compensations in your swing to offset it which will never really allow you to reach your potential.

The swing plane is a common thing many golf instructors talk about when referring to the path of the golf swing. Basically, swinging the club on plane correctly consists of a good takeaway and wrist set, and then swinging the club over the right shoulder in the backswing(for the right-handed golfer). The impact position should mirror the setup position other than the hips will be slightly open and the hands forwards and a little ahead of the golf ball through the hit. After impact, the club continues to swing all the way over the left shoulder and the body should end up facing directly towards the target.

I like to encourage my students to swing with good balance and smooth rhythm. You never want to swing so hard that you find yourself off balance anytime during your golf swing. Typically the backswing will be about three times as long as the downswing. You want the club to swing fastest right when it is at the bottom of the swing arc hitting the golf ball.

About the Author:

But what I am saying is?you can participate in a golf fitness training program with minimal equipment and can do it right in your home or even your office.

How ?

With only a stability ball, exercise tubing and a pair of handweights. Grand total?under $60 for your "total golf fitness gym". That's about one months membership to your local club that you'll visit once or twice and never go back (but keep paying every month).

I want you to get that picture out of your head of the "muscle-bound" hulk, heaving hundreds of pounds with on arm, slamming it to the floor and letting out the infamous LOUD GRUNT for attention.

No..you'll be doing golf-specific exercises with bands, balls and handweights that will quickly and directly benefit your golf swing. Sports conditioning or in this instance golf fitness training requires you to use your body in space incorporating balance, stabilization and sequence of timing just like your golf swing.

The direct correlation results in longer, more accurate drives, hitting a larger number of greens in regulation; and walking off the course beating the pants off of your playing partners.

Now that's "instant gratification" at its best!

And how about no more injuries! I'm dead serious! All those aches and pains finally gone. Forever! A stronger more flexible body will have a much higher level of resistance to pain and injury. And the added bonus is swinging "easier" and with much less effort, but seeing the ball go much further and straighter. It will feel like an "out-of-body" experience.

A few words of caution!

If you hear or see any programs touting they are golf fitness and see the golfer and/or trainer using the basic machines in the gym, this is NOT golf fitness training. This is without a doubt "general fitness". Not altogether a bad thing, but won't directly help your golf game.

Working on a stability ball, and using tubing and handweights you can mimic many phases of the golf swing and at the same time challenge your core stabilization, balance and muscular endurance. All critical factors in achieving optimal swing mechanics for 18 holes.

And?they're fun to use. You'll never get board. You can always make it more challenging from a balance and/or stabilization factor.

Just try to get one of those "muscle-heads" on a stability ball lifting the same heavy weights they use. Call the medics..cause it's going to get ugly real quick.

You see?most people who workout in the gym never challenge their proprioceptive awareness (or simply?using their body in space). This is the key to great golf.

The stronger you can get your core stabilizers, coupled with increased rotational flexibility?you're headed to an awesome game of golf. You'll definitely be the envy of your foursome.

A great recommendation would be to get yourself the famous golfing manual. More than 19,000 golfers in 36 countries on six continents swear our System fixed their swing problems once and for all.

They have had a vision of going into the local gym and being intimidated by the "muscle heads." It can also be overwhelming to decide what plan of action to take and if it will be worth the time and effort. I have listed three myths about strength training for golf and the truths about them as well.

"I will bulk up too much and that will hinder my golf swing."

Golf conditioning specific for golf will not result in muscle gain that will alter your swing mechanics. To increase muscle size, involves lifting increasingly heavier weights with lower repetitions, increasing your calorie intake dramatically, and spending a couple of hours per day lifting weights.

A golf conditioning program incorporates moderate weight, with medium (12-15) repetitions, and in a time frame of 30-45 minutes. This type of program is designed to improve your golf specific strength and endurance, not build muscle.

"I will lose flexibility if I lift weights."

In fact, the opposite is true! Weak muscles are also tight muscles. When you do resistance training, you are increasing blood flow, working through a functional range of motion specific to golf, and strengthening the tendons and ligaments in every joint of your body. In conjunction with a stretching program, strength training will improve flexibility, not hinder it.

"Weight training will cause me to lose feel."

By strengthening your muscles specific to golf, you will have better control of your body. A sport specific program trains your body specifically for your golf game. When you improve functional strength, you have more control and balance, which will improve your feel. Strength training involves body awareness, muscular control, and coordination. These are all key elements for enhanced golf.

So in summary, golf conditioning can be done when you are in your early teens (with supervision), or into your late 80's. I have personally worked with people in there 70's and 80's who increased their strength 100%. This was partly due to the initial level of fitness being so low.

My point is, that it is never too late to start. Search out a fitness professional or golf conditioning specialist to design a golf specific program and you will play better than you ever imagined! Start now!

Do you want to improve your golf game, I am sure you do, in that case I would highly recommend this great course called: The simple golf swing at

Power can be hard to get hold of to golfers. Is actual power produced by means of technique, strength or something more? Every golfer desires added strength, added distance, added consistency. Here are 3 ways to create the sort of power you have barely dreamed of…until now.

Power can be elusive to golfers. Is genuine power generated through technique, strength or something more? Every golfer wants more power, more distance, more consistency. Here are 3 ways to create the kind of power you have only wished of…until now.

1. Spinal Rotation. Each time you swing the golf club, you rotate around your spine. So, what does this have to do with power? Power is produced each time you stabilize your hips to construct a full backswing with spinal rotation. A good number of golfers have heard of the X factor. This, of course, refers to the differential linking the movement in your hips and your spine. Intensify your spinal rotation and a fresh awareness of power will be released.

2. Core Based Training. Your body's "core", the part all-around your trunk and pelvis, is where your axis of gravity is positioned. Whilst you have decent core stability, the muscles in your pelvis, lower back, hips and abdomen perform in harmony. They present support to your spine. The core is the power zone. It is where all movement begins. A well-developed core allows for superior strength output, better neuromuscular effectiveness, and decreased frequency of overuse injuries. A weak core can make you susceptible to poor posture and injury.

3. Plyometrics. Plyometrics are any exercise where the muscle is contracted eccentricly then immediately, concentricly. Put simply, the muscle is stretched (i.e. loaded) before it is contracted. A good example is medicine ball horizontal twists and standing golf swings. According to a recent study published in the National Strength and Conditioning Association’s (NSCA) journal, amateur golfers significantly increased their driving distances after just eight weeks of strength training while incorporating plyometrics. Mean driving distance increased 4.3% for the combined training group, with mean club head speed increasing 1.5%.

Once you incorporate these 3 techniques into your exercise program, you’ll never be disgruntled about driving distance or power generation again. If your really serious about increasing your power at the tee, you really need to do some form of strength training. Driving the ball is not all just about the procedure of the drive, it's also about muscle training your core section which is a certain in just about any sport. You may possibly enjoy perfect form but, when it comes to driving the ball further you do need to contentrate on strengthening your center of gravity for much further drives and superior accurracy.

This is necessary when you would like to learn how to hit longer drives, cure your golf slice and especially break 80.

Core strengthening is essential and critical to hitting longer drives. See what other golfers are using and doing to do just that. Plus, learn how to cure golf slice as well when adding more power behind your swing.

One of the things that is drilled into the new golfer when they take lessons from a professional golf coach is 'keep your head still', but this is one of those things that is easier said that done. Even players on the professional circuit winning millions of dollars per year from golf tournaments sometimes have problems with this aspect of the game. Lets face it, when there is so much movement going on through your arms, shoulders and torso, keeping the thing that sits on top of it all still is quite a tall order.

The next time you watch a golf tournament on television concentrate on the head movement of several different players and you will see that everyone will have some degree of head movement, and some more so that others. However, the one thing that you will find they all have in common is that their heads will remain behind the ball all the way through the swing right up to the point of impact between the club head and the ball. During their back swing you see some head movement but it will still be behind the ball when it is hit. You should try and follow this example and at the same time try and keep your head movement down to as little as possible. However, when you are playing for real, you shouldn't be concentrating on your head movement. Mastering these techniques is something for the practice game to the point where once it is mastered in practice it will become second nature the rest of the time.

Once the ball has been struck you should make an effort to watch the ball or turn towards its flight. This is something that again will come naturally as you complete your swing and allow the head to move with the shoulders.

As ever, you shouldn't feel you have to force any of these movements. Your golf swing is something that should be natural to you, so any adjustments you make should be made in small steps over a long period of time so as not to disturb your swing.

It is an accepted fact that golf is a very popular sport. Though it has not found a place in the events for the Olympics, when there is a tournament, the number of spectators that turn up to watch the game on the fairways is quite a large gathering, excluding those who watch it on TV in the comfort of their homes. For an avid golfer, the play of the pros is a sight and you can also be one of them if you follow these golf swing instructions and tips.

When playing golf, you shouldn’t just strike the ball as hard as you can and pray that it will land up near the hole. Golf is not like playing cards. It is not a matter of chance but of technique; technique to make that proper golf swing that is required to make the ball land as near the hole as possible.

Of course, this is not likely to happen every time you hit the ball because of external factors that are beyond your control; the direction and speed of the wind etc. But within reasonable constraints imagine how well you should be able to accomplish if the conditions are near perfect.

The first golf swing instruction that you have to learn is body control. This is a game where the way you raise your arm and bring it down to hit the ball makes a lot of difference to the way the wall is going to behave. Strength is not the only overriding factor that makes the ball go far but the recoil effect also.

So how do you go about achieving this recoil effect? You achieve it by not pivoting your body too far to the left when you start your swing. There are various training aids to help you practice this which include swinging with a heavier club; getting feedback fro someone watching you swing; practicing in front of a full length mirror and using a video camera to record and play back your swing.

When you turn from the initial starting position to the complete backswing and then execute the downswing, keep your arms relaxed. If you strain yourself, you cannot achieve the proper golf swing.

Keep in mind that the power for your shot come from your abs and your hips and that your arms are just extensions used to transfer this power to the clubface. Incidentally, the abs and the hips are the two largest muscles in your body.

Hit the ball at its dead centre. That is the way to make it fly in the direction that you want it to go. Having decided where to send the ball flying, keep your eyes on it until you hit it.

Not only do you have to train your upper body, you have to concentrate on your footing too. Ensure that both feet are firmly placed flat on the ground. This will enable you to shift your weight when necessary.

The golf swing instructions just mentioned are not difficult to follow. Practice is all that is required to gain consistency and perform effectively when it is your turn to play on the green.

Just keep in mind that when you make your first swing, your grip on the club must be relaxed with your feet planted flat on the ground. Only then will you be able to make the proper golf swing.

Follow the golf swing instructions mentioned above, have your ball land smack near the hole, make an easy putt and move on to the next hole.

Zen Proverb – ‘Be master of mind rather than mastered by mind’

The word Zen has become part of the English language, but what does it actually mean?

It is much easier to answer ‘WHEN is Zen’ because it is all about being in the NOW! The whole point of Zen practice is to become fully aware of the here and now. To play golf fully in the moment is to play great golf. As soon as we begin to engage our thinking process, our mind then goes into the past or future. ‘The past and future cannot help you to play well, since the future is unknown and our memories of the past are often quite distorted accounts of what has really happened’.

When we get lost in thoughts of the past or future, then our really good golf shots will often pass us by. I often talk about golf being task-focused and when you are completely in the present moment, you will be more capable of playing good golf. Being in the ‘zone’ whilst playing any sport, is all about becoming one with the activity; and the activity then becomes effortless. Many of you will have had ‘peak’ experiences whilst playing that perfect golf shot; this is when you become totally ‘one’ with your golf swing. This is a true Zen experience.

Zen monks are known for meditating and are well known for their ability to practice being in the moment. Notice I use the word ‘practice’ because you can practice this ability of ‘being’ in the moment.

It is quite simple and easy to practice Zen. In order to be completely in the moment, you need to be right here, right now. Most of our problems occur when we start to think about the situation using the beliefs we have created about how well we are about to do. If you think of it like this – whilst you are concentrating on what your mind is telling you then vital energy is being wasted. Look at it like a leak in a petrol tank – all that petrol is dripping out, so you will not be able to get as far on your journey as you had hoped. You will also have less power.

So what can you do about it? You need to make this process CONSCIOUS.

TIP: Every time you find yourself listening in on your self-talk, make a CHOICE to step back and stop. If you have tried this before, and you find it impossible to stop the thoughts, then find a way to block any intrusive thoughts. For instance, you could count your way through the swing – this would also help with your timing. Perhaps – 1, 2, 3 – hit – timed correctly, this would stop the mind chatter that interferes with your reaching the zone when you play.

Another tip to try is to use ‘visualisation’. By visualising exactly where you want your ball to land and playing over in your mind the perfect shot - as though it has just happened. If you are really determined to access being in the moment, then like all the other skills you learn you need repetition and practice. You are teaching your mind new habits and also letting go of firmly-embedded old habits that are used to feeding your mind with all this chitter-chatter.

So once you have told your self-talk to stop, you now have three choices; you can replace the silent mind with positive self-talk, visualise the perfect shot or leave yourself without any thought just ‘be in the moment’.

REMEMBER: The ideal state in which to play a golf shot is as follows: from the beginning of the swing to the ball flying through the air, you will have a complete sense of calmness, no thoughts, just a fantastic sense of well-being which will be effortlessness – that is where you want your mind to be each and every time you play a shot. It takes practice and awareness to switch off that negative mind chatter – but practice makes permanent!

Golfers who execute some great golf swings did not inherit the skill but developed it through hard work. So just copying them will not make you swing like them. You should also work hard to get the proper golf swing.

The more you strive to imitate the great golfers, the more likely that you will make mistakes. The morale behind this is that you have to be a self made golfer and not a copycat.

But, you may ask; how am I supposed to learn a game without following the leader? Practice is the answer to your question. If you are a novice to the sport, learn the golf swing basics by getting professional help. If this is not sufficient, get an instructional DVD and watch the golf swing instructions.

Your time and your effort are required to get the proper golf swing that you see and what you want. Of course, you have a job or a business to look after and can’t spend time on the game as much as Tiger Woods does. But for Tiger Woods, golf is his business.

This does not mean that you should chuck your job and try your hand at professional golf. With the limited practice time at your disposal, you should make the most out of it.

You see lots of people practising at the golf courses. They hit tens and hundreds of balls but nothing significant occurs. Why? Because in a real time game, what matters at the end is how you putt the ball into the hole. What this signifies is that you should spend as much time, if not longer, at honing your short game as you do on your long one.

To do this, there are various drills to help you in practising chipping and pitching. Since there is always the possibility of the ball landing in a bunker, you have to practice getting out from a bunker as well. A survey shows that most golfers get to make their shots from a distance of 75 yards or less away from the hole. As such this aspect also requires practice. Golf doesn’t come easy.

Brush up on your wedge play to help set up an east-birdie. Strike as many balls as you can from a distance of 40 to 135 yards. Use a club that is shorter than the one you use for long shots. The principle is the same.

There are a number of techniques to help you to develop your short game. Some of them are, to try striking the ball with one hand, hitting it with your eyes closed and setting up a chalk line to see if you are striking to move it in a straight line.

There are also other training aids like golf gloves to make sure that you are adopting the proper method to hold the golf club because this is crucial to the direction of travel of the ball when you hit it.

All said and done, it is the attitude, the professional one that is required and it the one commodity that you cannot purchase at any sporting store. Another significant factor is confidence. If you doubt whether the ball will get into the hole, chances are it will not. Practice, think positive and pray for the best. That’s all you can do when you putt.

Winning in golf depends on the proper golf swing that will take the ball as near to the hole as possible. Finally, it is your capability to putt that really counts. So concentrate on your short game also just as you should concentrate on the other aspects of the game.

All golfers want to make their golf swings effortless and professional. They try to get that “perfect” swing and improve their game in geometrical progression. They forget that there is no “one” swing that is perfect but that there is a perfect swing for each and every golfer. Each golfer is a different individual with a different approach to the game and each golfers swing will be unique. It is only through practice and the adherence to certain golf swing basics that a golfer can perfect his or her game.

The fact is that many golfers are not able to execute a proper golf swing and hit the ball with their irons or their drivers. This causes them problems like slices etc. And when they fail to hit the ball, they either blame it on the weather, the slope, the effect of the overtime working or that they are just warming up. They tend to ignore the simple fact that basic moves are always the best.

The following six basic principles should get the mechanics of a proper golf swing.

1. The most important way to hit your target is to get your alignment straight. This is the basic concept behind a proper golf swing. With proper alignment you can hit the ball dead in the centre.

2. The first thing to do is to get a comfortable stance. A posture that will allow you to pivot your body as effortlessly as possible. Imagine your spine as a vertical axis, push your backside a little way out and locate your centre of gravity. Once you get this stance, problems should take a backseat.

3. Keep your eyes on what you are going to strike. Purely due to its simplicity, it has become the most ignored of rules. Nevertheless, this is the most basic and important of all the rules; because if you can’t see what you intend to hit you can’t hit it, nothing but logic and common sense.

4. Patience and concentration. Two essential qualities for a good golfer. Concentrate with your feet squarely planted on terra firma. This is not about what you are going to do or what you did; it is about “now”. Concentrate now to achieve something significant in the future. This is the only way to get the proper golf swing.

5. Another basic golf swing instruction is to think “pinch” for irons and “sweep” for woods because that is the way golf clubs are designed; irons to pinch the ball off the ground and woods to sweep the ball off a tee.

6. One way to keep your concentration off the swing and transferring it to hitting the ball is to hum a small rhythm. Though they sound similar, there is a subtle difference. The golf swing is a technical aspect of the game whereas hitting the ball is what the game is all about. So the swing is a complicated process when compared to a simple hit.

Keep things simple. This will help you concentrate on the finer details of the game. It will also prevent you from panicking when you make a mistake. Fear and lack of self-respect are the two sworn enemies of a golfer.

NINETY percent of golf is in the mind. If you feel confident when you swing the club, the ball is much more likely to respond as desired. If you choose an EXACT target for your shot, the ball is much more likely to travel in that direction. If you visualize the trajectory of your shot, again the ball is much more likely to fly in a similar way, and so on.

On the flip side, if you don't choose an exact target, how can your mind direct your body to swing the golf club so the ball travels in the right direction? If you don't decide in your mind where the ball is going, how can you impart the correct information to the ball at impact with the clubface? If you are thinking "I don't like this club" how relaxed and confident is your golf swing going to be?

I know what you're going to say now. "But I don't feel confident with that club" or some variation of "this is how I am". And if that's how you're thinking, nothing will change. It's a bit of a chicken and egg situation. You have to feel confident in order to hit the ball well; and you have to hit the ball well in order to feel confident. Or do you?

What causes a lack of confidence? Is it a fear that the ball is not going where you want it to go, or a fear of making a fool of yourself, or a fear that your swing needs to be fixed? We're not born with fear. Fear is learned...and therefore can be unlearned. The question is "how?"

First, stop thinking that your golf swing needs to be fixed; it's just fine. Just look at all the professionals on TV and you won't see two same swings. If you topped the ball on the last shot, you topped it. If you hit it fat, you got under it too much. These are relevant facts which provide feedback to you which enable you to adjust your next swing accordingly. Your entire swing doesn't need fixing.

Secondly, having emptied your mind of irrelevant "swing needs to be fixed" thoughts, you can use your mind to create a feeling of confidence. Think confident thoughts and you'll feel confident. Everything in life starts with a thought. Thoughts create your emotions which direct your actions. Just by consciously choosing to direct your thoughts in this way you will reap great rewards. However, if you really want to appreciate the full power of your mind in golf, hypnosis is the way to go.

The use of golf hypnosis allows you to access your subconscious mind, the part that knows just what to do, just how to do it, the part that acts automatically and spontaneously. Your conscious mind thinks whilst your subconscious mind acts automatically. Golf hypnosis will allow you to access your automatic thought patterns and to change them. Many people don't even know the thought processes which are embedded in their subconscious mind; all they know is how they feel and how they act, without knowing why. And in golf, as with everything in life, awareness precedes choice which precedes change.

With the help of golf hypnosis cds or hypnosis downloads, you can become aware of and empty your conscious and subconscious mind of confidence destroying thoughts. You can also direct your automatic thought patterns in a way that you desire. You can make suggestions to instill yourself with hypnosis confidence; you can learn to visualize clearly the results you want to happen, so that when you go out on the golf course you have an instinctive feeling of confidence and an expectation that the ball is going to end up in the right place. And, seeing as hypnosis is in itself a state of relaxation at one with a state of heightened awareness, you can learn to relax and focus at will whilst on the golf course.

Golfers of all standards are recognizing that hypnosis does work. There is more to it than the stereotypical stage hypnotist who wears flowing robes, has a goatee and makes usually sensible people cluck like chickens, or do rather more embarrassing deeds whilst under his "spell".

A lot of people are afraid of hypnosis, but this is usually due to lack of knowledge. They've seen a stage show and think "I'm not going there" or "you couldn't do that to me". There is a natural fear of losing control, and a secondary fear that maybe you can't be hypnotized - that it takes a certain type of person to be hypnotized.

Everyone can be hypnotized, so long as you want to be. You pass through hypnosis every time you go to sleep and every time you wake up - it's the dreamlike state between wake and sleep. When you drive home in your car, and ask yourself when you get there "did I check the traffic lights?" you've been in a trance - a state of hypnosis. When you stare through the TV and don't hear your partner speaking, that again demonstrates trance; it is hypnosis.

Hypnosis is natural, normal, and powerful. Think how useful it could be to block out everything except what's in your spotlight of thought, AT WILL?... Not just when you're staring through the TV. Wouldn't that be helpful when you're teeing off on the 1st or putting for eagle on the 18th?

Hypnosis is a state of relaxation at one with a state of heightened awareness. You're not asleep, you're not knocked out and you cannot be made to do something you don't want to do. You can hear and you can think. Again, wouldn't it be helpful to be able to have a relaxed awareness on the golf course? To be able to remain calm inside, but totally aware of what is important at the same time, AND be able to block out unnecessary thoughts and distractions? Just one look at Tiger's facial expressions and you know how he's feeling and focusing when he is playing golf.

It seems to be that human nature is that if we're not achieving the results we desire we must be doing something wrong. We look for something that needs to be fixed. In golf this usually means a fine dissection of our grip, stance, alignment, swing path and so on; followed by a rework of the swing (which may take all year to groove). Very few people think that their swing is basically alright, but they need to focus more clearly, relax more, or begin to think straight.

Returning to the "my swing needs to be fixed" culture, ask yourself "why is this the case?" Because most golfers hit several beautiful shots and a few that weren't as beautiful - and each time it was the same person who swung the club. How can your golf swing need fixing when that swing hits both beautiful and less than beautiful shots? Ask yourself as well whether you can remember a day when you started on the 1st and hit some really nice shots and you felt yourself thinking "Oh, it's going well today"?...and your confidence grew, and somehow everything came together and you had a great round of golf? Did your swing need fixing then? Is it your swing or your mind that makes the difference in golf?

Why not spend some time focusing upon your golf mind instead of the mechanics of golf? You can learn how to change your habitual thoughts with the help of hypnosis downloads. Why do you think the professionals use golf hypnosis? They use golf hypnosis because it works; hypnosis downloads can be used to get you to focus, to stay in the now, to visualize a great swing and to see what you really want to see.

Golfers like Tiger Woods are envied for their skill in the execution of the proper golf swing. The pure joy of watching them swing their clubs and sending the ball soaring up into the air and away over the fairway, knows no bounds. The proper golf swing can be called the Holy Grail of Golf. It is the proper golf swing that separates the chaff from the grain; the rookie from the veteran and the true golfer from the pseudo.

The popularity of golf throughout the world has spawned a number of books, golf swing instructions and DVDs aimed at improving the swinging ability of the golfer. Some people find these materials effective some do not. The principal reason behind the failure of most of these guides is the difference in the anatomy of every individual golfer. No two golfers are the same, neither are two golf swings. Some of the techniques in golf swing instruction guides simply will not work on some people because of their anatomy. And guides cannot be expected to address all anatomical differences.

For instance, the flexibility and agility of a slender golfer cannot be normally matched by the powerful swing of a stocky person and vice versa. The stocky golfer uses his broad shoulders to create the power to strike the ball to a far distance and this is matched by the legerity and the suppleness of the slender golfer to take his back swing far behind his back and thus give a longer downswing, which translates into the power required for hitting the ball.

The distance travel by the ball may be the same for each golfer, but the technique is as different as chalk and cheese. The techniques are different because the body structures are different.

A little bit of mathematics and physics could help you perceive the differences in the proper golf swing of each individual, the stocky and the slender golfer. Most professional golfer can attain a club head speed of about a hundred miles per hour (mph) – Tiger Woods is known to have hit 125 mph. – at the moment the clubface makes contact with the ball.

Tiger Woods is able to achieve this golf swing speed because he pivots far behind his back than most golfers can. The effect of the angular motion and the torque force on the club at the moment of impact has been studied in detail by physicists. They have found that velocity also has a telling effect on your proper golf swing. Practically all golf club heads have the same weight and to achieve distance the golfer has to hit the ball with the maximum force and this can be created only if the club head reaches the maximum velocity.

One of the most common mistakes that a novice at golf makes is to snap the wrist just before impact. It usually happens if the golfer is standing too close to the ball. This actually slows down the speed of the club, hence the force and translates into a lesser travel distance of the ball.

The single most important full swing fundamental in golf is the setup position i.e. how to align you body and where to place the ball.

Alignment
Your body especially your feet should be positioned parallel to the target line. The golfer will appear slightly left of the target because the ball is on the target line while the body is not. The easiest way to imagine this is the image of a railroad track. Your body is on the inside rail and the ball is on the outside rail.

For the middle irons, your feet should be shoulder width. The short iron stance will be two inches narrower and the stance for long irons and woods should be two inches wider. The foot at the target-side should be flared toward the target from 20 to 40 degrees. This is to allow the body to rotate toward the target on the downswing. The back foot should be square (90 degrees to the target line) to slightly open to create the proper hip turn on the back swing.

Ball Placement

The ball placement varies with the club you select.

1) For short irons e.g. wedges, 9-iron and 8-iron, place the ball in the centre portion of your stance. These clubs have the most upright lie angles and they must be swung at the steepest angle, and you should take a divot in front of the ball.

2) For middle irons, place the one ball toward the target-side foot from centre (a ball left of centre for the right-handed golfer). These clubs have a slightly flatter lie angle and you should take a slightly shallower divot than with the short irons.

3) For the long irons and fairway woods, the ball position is two balls toward the target-side foot from centre. With these clubs, the ball should be struck directly at the bottom of the swing arc with very little divot.

4) For the driver, the ball is placed farthest forward (three balls left of centre for the right-hander) to strike the ball on the upswing.

With short irons, your body weight should be 60% on the target side foot. For middle iron shots, the body weight should be 50/50 or equal on each foot. For your longest clubs, place 60% of your weight on the backside.

Golf lovers looking for a conversation to have while consuming a beer will often discuss the most incredible golf stars of their respective times. The game of golf changes in every epoch. The golf players have gotten stronger, and even more importantly, the gear has gotten much better. Today, wholesale golf clubs are works of craftsmanship, adding distance and marksmanship to anyone's match.

Our selection for the 1st era is Bobby Jones, the most incredible amateur player to ever swing the sticks. In 1930, Jones won the Grand Slam overcoming all amateurs and professionals. Ponder thatfeat. In the U.K., he won both the British Amateur Championship and the British Open. Golf's Grand Gentleman conquered thirteen majors and quit competitive golf attwenty-eight. Others like the tremendous competitor Byron Nelson were splendid during this era, but we'd put our wager on Hogan in an 18-hole playoff any time.

Our selection for the second time frame is amazing ball-striker Ben Hogan. He won an bodacious sixty-three tournaments from the late 30's to late 50's, despite losing time to WWII and a near-fatal accident. A unyielding competitor, Hogan epitomized endurance and his capability to hit perfect shots from anywhere on the tees. He spent decades analyzing the golf swing, and created one of the superior swings ever found on the fairways! Golf clubs wholesalers have been vending sticks designed by Hogan for years.

Arnold Palmer heads the list for the 3rd incredible player. The man at the front of Arnie's Army used his strange swing to conquere large numbers of hardware, and the hearts of the ordinary golf player in the process. Golf stars headed out to buy wholesale golf clubs and learn the game after watching Palmer play. In one of golf's greatest comebacks, Palmer emergedfrom seven strokes back in the last round to win the 1960 U.S. Open. The crowd cheered him to victory. He won 7 majors among his 60 tour victories, earning the golf nickname "the King." Palmer bests Nicklaus in our list, but we admit it's a controversial pick.

The Master of the current game is a tough selection. Actually, it's not. Only a fool would not pick Tiger Woods. He is on pace to destroy all the golf records, and now his clubs are hot items with golf club wholesalers, too. We hope they'll help us play like him!

I have great interest in wholesale golf clubs.

As a famous golf club wholesaler, I have engaged in this line for more than 10 years.

I am glad to share experiences of wholesale golf clubs with you.

It is important to be "in the now" in order to be fully aware of what we should be aware of whilst on the golf course. Perception involves all the ways of becoming aware of things, people, happenings, or ideas. Once a person has perceived something they will make sense of that "reality" in their own way - they will make a judgment, come to their own conclusion about the "reality" of the situation. Judgment involves all the ways of coming to conclusions about what has been perceived. If people differ systematically in what they perceive and in how they reach conclusions, then it follows that they will differ in levels of motivation, acquisition of skills and in their reactions to situations.

There are many ways in which people differ. On a physical scale, we differ in height, shape, weight, fitness, flexibility, and so on. And our golf swing will differ from one individual to another because of these obvious physical differences. Golf is played from the platform of you, the person, and you are unique, and thus you will have your own unique swing. And yet so many golfers try to imitate someone else's swing which they perceive as perfect; and it probably is perfect...for that other person - it suits their individual characteristics, both physically and psychologically.

On the psychological side, some of us are more relaxed and easy going whilst others are more easily excitable. Some of us do things slowly and deliberately, whilst others do things at great speed. Some of us are very controlled, others not. Again, our golf will reflect such individual characteristics.

Awareness is the first step on the journey to mastery of anything in life. If you are aware of your individual methods of perception and the judgments that ensue, then you can change your reaction to situations, you can change your levels of motivation and also your ability to acquire skills. And golf is a game of reactions, motivation and skill.

If you are aware of reacting as "Mr. Angry", for example, you can do a little work on this and learn to respond in a different way. I can hear you saying "but this is how I am, I always get angry because I care" and so on. But the fact is you don't HAVE to get angry, you CAN learn to react in a different way, and you CAN take control, so long as you WANT to. And so, with a little effort on your part, and maybe a little help from a hypnotherapist or golf psychologist, you can change your reactions to all sorts of situations on the golf course. Wouldn't that be useful?

Not only can you change your reactions, you can raise your levels of motivation, overcome negative thoughts and feelings and take a more direct route along the road to mastery. Once you are aware of your own unique characteristics, you know what skills come naturally to you and what skills require a little attention, and as you attend to these mental skills you will find that you can acquire them in a relatively short space of time. Let's face it; if you are good at your long game but not so good at chipping, you know that if you work on the chipping it will get better. Taking the same approach to your mental skills will work just as effectively. They simply require a little attention on your part.

One particular aspect of personality, however, will always remain pretty constant and unchanged, and to fight this aspect would be a complete waste of time and effort. There is an individual tempo of the personality. There is a natural tempo with which we all perform any deliberately willed action. And if there is one thing which is vital in golf is to have a good rhythm, a good tempo.

This does NOT mean that you have to have the same tempo as Tiger, or Ernie or Phil. Your best rhythm, your best tempo, is your OWN natural, instinctive tempo or rhythm. You don’t have to slow your golf swing down or speed it up; simply become AWARE of your natural tendencies and swing the club accordingly.

Ask yourself these two simple questions and you will easily work out your own best golfing tempo: Do you speak quickly or slowly? Do you walk quickly or slowly? Next time you swing your golf club, become aware of what tempo feels best to you. As Gary Player says "There is a definite "feeling" and this feeling is to be developed and looked for". Instead of trying to swing at the speed you think you should, allow yourself to become aware of the feel of your golf swing and discover for yourself what feels best, and you will find that your own most comfortable swing speed, your most comfortable rhythm and tempo, will in fact simply reflect your personality type. By swinging your golf club with the rhythm and tempo of your own personality you will produce your best results on the golf course.

You will never become a master of someone else's golf game, but you can become a master of your own game. To quote Pia Nilsson, "Trust your swing; it is your signature".

The most important thing that a golfer should acquire is a proper golf swing that is near perfect. It should be the endless effort of both veterans of the game and the novice to get a better swing at the next eighteen holes. The number of books on golf and the instructional videos available could confuse a beginner and no matter how many times or how many books you read or the DVDs you watch, they will be of no avail if the basics of the game, that remain the same for every golfer, is not properly understood and assimilated thoroughly.

The Set-Up

One of the things that makes a golf swing go off tangent is not the swing in itself but the set-up of the golfer. When we say set-up, we could refer to the golfer’s club, his accessories and clothes etc. It is the opinion of some golfers that a good set-up can offset a bad swing, which, of course, is patently incorrect. It does not matter if you have designer clubs, accessories and swank clothes or just off-the-rack clubs. It is the proper golf swing that is ultimately going to win you the game.

Spending too much time on set-up than on a game is a common mistake beginners tend to commit. Some golfers think that if they know all the technical names and terms of the game, they can just go about hitting the ball however they want. It may work for a film star in a film but it will not work for the average golfer and his bad swing.

But it is essential for you to keep in mind that when we talk about set-up we should mean the game and not the clubs, the accessories and the clothes of the golfer. It should pertain to the set-up of the golfer’s position, stance, balance etc. prior to the proper golf swing.

Bad Posture Can Destroy The Proper Golf Swing

If you are the kind of golfer that is not paying attention to the posture you adopt during a swing, then you should seriously think of chucking the game and taking up another. Golf is just not the game for you. You should know a good posture from a bad one and avoid the bad one. The key factor of a proper golf swing is the proper alignment of your head and your neck. This is the factor that is going to dictate the development of the force that will drive the ball and its flight. If you hunch over the ball, you will either hit it to the side or it will far short of the green than it should. It does not matter how hard you hit it.

Next comes balance. Not that it is in anyway inferior to posture. A good balance is required to deliver the required thrust to your swing. If you are unbalanced, you cannot hit the ball with the force that it should be struck with. If you have not perfected your stance, you will feel uneasy during play and the uneasiness will be obvious in your shot. Keep your footing on solid ground and keep it firm but not tensed up and heavy. Proper balance and posture can be cultivated by constant practice. It should become so ingrained into yourself that you should be taking up the correct position the moment you step up to tee off.

Chicken Wings

When we say chicken wings we do not mean the kind that we eat and relish. This variety can best be left at home or reserved for a victory dinner. It is the act of letting your arm and your wrist go limp when putting a ball that is known as a chicken wing. It is a bad habit and should be overcome by strict discipline and practice. If this limp action is allowed then your arm will fly up and all the power developed will get dissipated.

Golfers who do not pay the necessary attention to their swing tend to commit this so called chicken wings. Chopping or slicing will be the result of losing power and executing a chicken wing.

Learn the good aspects of the game and practice them to perfection. Learn the bad things about golf and strive to avoid them.

If I were to ask you what you do between shots during a round of golf, you'd probably think I was missing the point. After all, golf psychology and teaching should be all about helping you to hit better shots and putts during a round of golf or in practice, shouldn't it? This applies whether you're working with a teaching pro helping you with your golf swing or with a golf psychologist helping to improve your mental approach to golf.

So what do you actually do in the time between assessing and hitting your shots and putts? It really should take a lot less than a minute on average to size up a shot, decide on how to play it, set up to the ball and hit it. I seem to recall from somewhere that the US PGA allows 45 seconds for all this per shot and very few people take that long over a short putt. So all that should add up to a maximum of 54 minutes actually playing golf to go round in 72 strokes and 72 minutes to go round in 90 strokes. If you take just 4 hours to play a round then you're not actually playing for approximately 3 hours in every 18 holes.

What many people do in this spare 3 hours in every round is to get down on themselves mentally. Just watch how many golfers trudge between shots with their heads down and seemingly just staring at the ground a few feet ahead. Many of them are talking to themselves and often what they're saying is not usually fit for publication. Thankfully, they normally keep the voice inside their heads, but I'm sure you've played the odd round with a playing partner who berates himself loudly during the course of a round - I know I've done that in the, hopefully distant, past and I'm not proud of it.

So what's wrong with keeping your head down between shots? Well just watch how people typically stand when life is on the up. Yes, they stand erect with their head held high. And when they are feeling down, their heads tend to be down. Psychological research also demonstrates that this works the other way too, so if you walk between shots with your head down and your shoulders a bit slumped, you'll automatically feel down. In the same way, you will feel like things are looking up if you're walking erect with your head raised high.

Have you ever noticed how depressed people seem to be in many nursing homes and how many of them walk around in a bent over posture? Well I met a husband and wife recently, both doctors, who are incorporating NLP concepts into posture management. They've found that they can improve the posture and, more importantly, increase the level of happiness and optimism of patients in nursing homes by simply replacing the lounge chairs with ones that encourage a more upright sitting posture and hanging televisions from the ceilings rather than sitting them on the floor. Those simple changes lead to wholesale improvements in people's posture, health and happiness.

Next time you play golf; try walking between shots with your back straight and your head held high. You could even use golf hypnosis to help you to remember not to forget to do it when you play. However you're actually feeling when you start and regardless of any bad shots you hit, I suspect you'll be amazed at how much better and more positive you'll feel as the game progresses. It may even have an impact on your enjoyment of this wonderful game of golf and, who knows, you may even score better.

Golf, undoubtedly, is a favourite sport; a reason why it is broadcast on TV. Your game may not be up to the level of Tiger Wood’s, but to become good at it, there are just three helpful golf swing tips to attain the proper golf swing.

The first one is that you should have a good shoulder turn to hit the ball dead centre and get it as close to the hole as possible. Easier said than done. Most people labor under the misconception that by lifting the heel high off the ground, they can do what is to be done in golf.

It boils down to this – turning of the hip is good as long as it does not create any recoil. The lesson to be learnt is not to turn much creating recoil – but not by how far the person turns when taking the shot.

The second lesson is not to let your chin rest on your chest. This will make it hard for the left arm to swing back when executing the backswing. You have to keep the chin up to allow the arm – the left one – to move across the chest unhindered. This will result in the formation of a wide arc that is required to strike the ball and send it off in the right direction.

The third lesson is to relax. If you are tensed up, you cannot think properly. If you do not think properly you will forget the two tips given previously resulting in a disruption of your rhythm. Consequently you will not strike the ball in the correct way.

To relax is a bit difficult when you are playing a real game of golf and want to win, but that is what separates the chaff from the grain – the boys from the men. Block everyone around you out of your mind, concentrate and imagine that you are in your “happy place”.

This is exactly what Adam Sandler’s character did in the film “Happy Gilmore” and won the game despite the odds.

Of course, you might not be able to master all the three tips overnight but by constant and regular practice you will soon get the essence of the advice. Jut keep in mind that professional golfers do not always win and that they also commit mistakes.

This thought should give you a good chance to win a competition, but you have nothing to lose because you are at a disadvantage and not expected to win. But the situation changes when you perform well throughout the tournament and everyone expects you to perform even better than you did.

When everything else fails, try to recall the third tip and relax. The difference between a win and a lose is nothing but attitude and relaxation is a kind of attitude. Continue your practice till you get the proper golf swing. Practice at home, in a range or out on a golf course.

The three tips given above are nothing but technique and attitude. The game starts from the moment you tee off. That is why your swing counts. If you get it right at the start, then the final putt, just a few yards from the hole will be relatively easier.

If you are really lucky, you might even do a “hole in one”, a rare occurrence and something that happens only once in a blue moon. But if you do, you have to move to the next hole, which might be more challenging than the one you just completed.

When you are out there on the course, success can be assured only if you follow the three tips outlined above.
