Golf Swing Keys: Practice Balls -- powered by GolfSwingKeys.com

Using plastic golf balls is a great way to easy and conveniently practice your golf swing keys without having to go to a driving range or play a round. Learn why this is from a golf expert here in this free video clip.

A great way to hone your golf swing is to practice hitting plastic golf balls with the Medicus in your house during these long cold winter months.

If you're a pretty goood golfer and have some sticking points in your golf swing, a great golf swing key is to use the Medicus Driver and a practice ball and work on your tempo in the privacy of your own home.

Lets face it, tempo is probably the most important golf swing key you can work on that will have an immediate impact on your golf game.

Be certain you purchase the Medicus Driver from the Medicus Golf site, you'll get FREE shipping and it will ship within 24 hours.

If you decide to buy any of the Medicus Golf Clubs on Ebay or Craigslist - BUYER BEWARE!!

You may not get the bonuses and shipping time could take forever.

Also, if you have any order issues with any of these non Medicus Golf Sites, are you confident they will be resolved in a timely manner??...

Something to think about...

Play well.

5. I am such an idiot. At Winged Foot in 2006, Phil Mickelson had three major titles on his resume and the chance to finally land the big one that got away. Phil had suffered U.S. Open near-misses at Pinehurst, Bethpage Black and Shinnecock Hills, and all he needed was a par at the 18th to win this Open, or a bogey to force a playoff. You know the rest. It was Jean Van de Velde all over again, only with trees instead of grandstands and a water hazard.

Mickelson blocked a tee shot left off a hospitality tent, took two to get out of the trees, blasted out of a bunker and made a double-bogey 6 to blow the Open in New York, where he is a huge crowd favorite. His subsequent self-effacing quote, "I am such an idiot," said it all and made Mickelson the new poster boy of major championships squandered. At least in golf, that's only a temporary position. (For details, see Colin Montgomerie, Scott Hoch, Greg Norman or Kenny Perry, to name a few.)

6. The Battle of Augusta. What if ... Masters chairman Hootie Johnson had just ignored the letter from Martha Burk of the National Council of Women's Organizations? We might have been spared a year of unseemly — and ultimately wasted — animosity over the absence of women at Augusta National Golf Club. Instead, Johnson hit back, and his comment that the club wouldn't change its policies "at the point of a bayonet" started a year-long war that led up to the 2003 Masters.

Burk went from relative unknown to a regular guest on national news shows, and she enjoyed strong backing from the New York Times, which editorially urged Tiger Woods to boycott the tournament, USA Today and the Washington Post. When Burk shrewdly began to apply gender-based political pressure to advertisers, Johnson outflanked her by canceling all tournament sponsorships. The battle dragged on for months, and Burk promised that picketing protestors in Augusta "will give those good old boys the vapors."

Long saga short: Burk was denied permits to demonstrate near Augusta National's main gate and had to move the protest elsewhere. What protest? Fewer than a hundred demonstrators showed up. Score a win for Johnson as the Masters went on uninterrupted. Two years later, the tournament sponsors were back on board.
The only real winners, as usual, were the lawyers. Burk sued the city of Augusta over its protest ordinance and won a favorable ruling from the 11th Circuit Court of Appeals, which ordered the city to pay $150,000 in NCWO legal fees. When the court refused to hear an appeal, city officials negotiated a $120,000 settlement.

7. American idols. The U.S. Ryder Cup team was at rock bottom going into the 2008 Ryder Cup, having won only one of the last six Cups, including consecutive 9.5-point thumpings in 2004 and 2006. So captain Paul Azinger drew up a new points system and grouped his players in four-man pods according to personality type, which built familiarity during practice rounds. Azinger made all the right moves as his relaxed-but-determined lineup (minus the injured Tiger Woods) defeated Europe by a satisfying five-point margin to regain the Cup.

J.B. Holmes, one of Azinger's picks, came up big in singles, as did Kentucky native Kenny Perry, who heeded Azinger's advice on how to minimize the pressure of playing in front of his vocal home-state supporters.

Lightly regarded Boo Weekley was unbeaten and provided the moment that symbolized Team USA's fun approach. In his Sunday's singles match, he hilariously galloped off the first tee riding his driver like a pony. The enthusiastic fans responded to Azinger's request to become the 13th man and gave the event a loud, football game-like atmosphere. "After this," Golf Channel analyst Steve Flesch said, "the next tour event is going to seem like a member-guest."

President George Bush invited the victorious team to the White House, where a wowed Weekley, who had an upcoming hunting trip planned, had the last word. "The only thing that would top this year off any better for me," he said, "would be to go out and get me a big deer."

Callaway Golf X Hybrids draft from Callaway's X Series drivers and fairway woods – incorporated with a Modified X-Sole design for versatility and superior turf interaction with proven Callaway Golf core technologies. The X Hybrid provides the ultimate in stainless steel hybrid performance with X Series styling and playability. A modified X-Sole design provides hybrid versatility, cutting through the thick rough while sliding smoothly over tight fairways, as well as lowering the leading edge to help get the ball airborne quickly and easily. Increased perimiter weighting with an optimized center of gravity position results in a high moment of inertia for greater stability and increased trajectory control. The Callaway Golf X Hybrids utilize patented Callaway Golf technologies including VFT technology to maximize ball speed and perimeter weighting for more distance and forgiveness, S2H2 to increase discretionary weight by removing it from the the hosel and repositionit in the perimeter, and Tru-Bore technology to provide improved feel and clubhead control.

Scotty Cameron by Titleist putters are tour-proven instruments of uncompromised feel, looks and performance. Notably prominent across the worldwide professional tours, Cameron putters have been the top choice of more players and more winners on the U.S. PGA TOUR for more than a decade. As a market leader in the premium putter category, Titleist further solidifies its high performance product offering with the introduction of the Scotty Cameron Studio Select family of Newport-style putters.

The new Studio Select putters are precision milled with circular weights in the heel and toe that allow each model to be offered at 33", 34" and 35" lengths. With four Newport based models the new line features two different body styles - the Newport and Newport 2 - and three different neck configurations - plumbing, short flair and mid slant. This flexibility makes it easy for golfers to choose a Studio Select putter with the appearance they prefer, the length and weight they need, and a neck configuration that provides the proper amount of toe flow during the stroke. In addition, Studio Select putters can be lie adjusted +/- 2 degrees off of the standard 71 degrees and come with six different grip options, including the standard Red Cameron Cord, Black Studio Design, Red Studio Design, Black Baby T, Red Baby T and Red Winn AVS Midsize. Further customization is available through Scotty's Custom Shop at http://www.mygolfwholesale.com/category-23-b0-Titleist.html

"Different golfers require putters of different lengths, weights, body and neck configurations," comments Scotty Cameron, Master Putter Designer. "However, most putter heads are only weighted for 35-inch shafts and therefore, are much too light for shorter lengths, or too heavy for longer lengths. Too often the same heads are placed in shafts of all lengths. The result is the golfer having to hit at the ball instead of being able to stroke the ball, and that creates distance control problems. The Studio Select putter line delivers a wide range of specifications and options, designed to accommodate a wider range of golfer requirements."

All four putter models - the Newport, Newport 1.5, Newport 2 and Newport 2 Mid Slant - feature a high toe set-up that reduces the tendency for players to raise the toe and aim left of target, and a stepless steel shaft for a clean, unbroken playing position appearance. Tour-inspired cosmetics include three large red dots on the back of the putter, three smaller red dots on the heel of the face, and distinct Studio Select graphics, shaftband and headcover. The model name is engraved into the sole, and the soft 303 stainless material delivers a crisp, solid feel at impact and enhances durability for a timeless style. All models are available in right hand. The Newport 2 model is available left hand in all three lengths as well.

"The addition of the new Studio Select putters to the Scotty Cameron putter family provides golfers an exceptional choice of options," said Steve Pelisek, Vice President of Sales and Marketing, Titleist Golf Clubs. "From the traditional blade-like Circa 62, to the high-tech Newport Detour, to the classic mallet-shaped Red X3 and Red X5, and now the new contemporary heel-toe weighted Studio Select, the Scotty Cameron franchise offers golfers an unmatched choice of fine milled putters in a variety of shapes and styles."

The first Tour victory with the Studio Select came at this year's Bob Hope Chrysler Classic, where the champion led the field in putting trusting the Newport 2 model.

Studio Select putters will be available beginning March 15, 2008, with a suggested retail price of $325. To download hi-res photography of or obtain additional information on the new Studio Select putters, please visit titleist.com or contact Joe Gomes, Director of Communications, Acushnet Company (508.979.3211).

Titleist, FootJoy and Cobra comprise the major golf brands of the Acushnet Company, an operating company of Fortune Brands, Inc. (NYSE - FO). Titleist, FootJoy, Cobra, Scotty Cameron, Circa 62, Detour, Red X3, Red X5 and Studio Select are trademarks owned or licensed by the Acushnet Company.

Do you know what can happen when golfers use terms incorrectly or which are not defined in the Rules of Golf? Here we submit to you the "Top 10 Misused Terms in Golf."

No. 10, "Through the Green"
No. 9, "Rough"
No. 8, "Fairway"

These three terms have a strong relationship to one another in that they are typically misused when referring to areas of the course. The terms "rough" and "fairway" are actually areas of the course that the Rules call " through the green ."

The issue with "through the green" is that most tend to believe it refers to the area over the back of the green. However, by definition within the Rules of Golf, if an area of the golf course is not a hazard (i.e., a bunker or a water hazard), and is not the teeing ground or the putting green of the hole you are playing, it is "through the green."

Did you know the word "rough" does not appear in the Rules of Golf , and the word "fairway" appears only once? Ironically "fairway," while not defined in the Rules, is used to clarify the term "closely mown area" for where a player is entitled to relief for a ball embedded in its own pitch-mark ( Rule 25-2 ). Although golfers at all skill levels use these terms, you will not be able to find these words in the index when attempting to look them up in the Rules of Golf booklet. Quite simply, both fairway and rough fall under one term: "through the green."

No. 7, "Waste Area/Waste Bunker"

Many modern golf courses have areas often referred to as "waste areas" or "waste bunkers." These are typically areas that don't meet the definition of either a water hazard or a bunker . Generally, they are unmaintained natural areas installed by modern-day course architects to add another test for golfers to negotiate (or to reduce maintenance costs), and are simply "through the green." That means the Rules allow you to ground your club and/or take practice swings in these areas. And that can be a good thing.

No. 6, "Trap"

Continuing with bunkers, let's get another misnomer out of the way. A bunker is not a "trap."

By definition, a bunker is a prepared area of ground, often a hollow, from which turf or soil has been removed and replaced with sand or the like. Many golfers like to refer to them as traps or sand traps. Now, the last time I checked, a "trap" is not something anyone or anything wants to be in (i.e., bear traps, rat traps, speed traps). What's more, if one attempts to look up the word "trap" in the Rules of Golf, the search will be fruitless, as the word is not there. A bunker, on the other hand, has a much less punitive connotation and is the proper term as defined in the Rules of Golf.

No. 5, "Cup"
No. 4, "Pin"

It is a bit of a mystery as to how the terms "cup" and "pin" came to replace the proper terms of " hole " and " flagstick ." Seems that it is just as easy to refer to them as a "hole," and a "flag" or a "stick." Most golfers should cringe every time they hear television announcers refer to the hole location as the day's "pin placement." After all, the purpose of the game as laid out in Rule 1-1 is to put the ball in the hole, not in the cup.

No. 3, "Tee Box"

Let's talk about the "tee box." Historically, the tee box was a small wood crate filled with sand used for building a small mound to place the ball for the tee shot; that is until the wooden tee peg became all the rage in the early 1900s. The starting place of each hole is a rectangular area, two club-lengths in depth and the width of the tee-markers, and the proper term for it is " teeing ground ."

No. 2, "Rub of the Green"

Another term often misused by television announcers is "rub of the green." Most use the term to refer to bad luck. According to the Rules of Golf, a rub of the green occurs when a ball in motion is accidentally deflected or stopped by an outside agency. Sure, it's frustrating when a perfectly good shot heads toward the flagstick, only to have the ball strike the flagstick and careen into a greenside bunker. That's a rub of the green that is bad luck. However, a ball destined for out of bounds or a bad place, that miraculously strikes a tree and comes to rest in a more desirable spot is a rub of the green that is good luck. Some know this as a "member's bounce." Here is a link to a terrific video clip of Payne Stewart receiving a very lucky " rub of the green ."

So HOT DEAL: Hurry to get TaylorMade Tour Burner Iron Set Just only half Price

The TaylorMade Golf Tour Burner Iron Set with Steel Shafts each have an offset inverted cone clubface that gives faster average ball speed and longer distance on shots due to the thin and fast 2.2 mm face. That revolutionary face offers increased c.o.r., and the cavity badge delivers a super satisfying feel and sound and a clean, classic look at the address.

lor Made Tour Burner Irons features Thin and fast 2.2 millimeter face - HIgh COR - Burner ball speed and distance

New Multi-Functional Sole - Moderate width with a beveled trailing edge - Combines low CG with the exceptional playability of a thin sole

Medium top-line and offset - Clean and classic appearance at address - Excellent playability

Inverted Cone Technology - Fast ball speed from a larger portion of the face - Long distance on off-center hits

REVIEW:

"I was recently looking betweeen the Taylormade R7 irons, Mizuno MP-57 irons, Cobra S9 and Cobra FS-T irons, and the Taylormade Tour Burners. I narrowed it down to the two Taylormades and went with the Burners for the great feel, distance, and accuracy. Also, they are new for 2008 and only [$]. The name Tour doesn't mean that they are meant for Tour players. Actually, they are forgivind clubs with great results. I would recommend these clubs to anyone wanting to improve their game."

Note: All of our golf clubs are from orginal manufactuers, and they have a warranty for 1 years. If you find any quality problems when you received, we can replace it for you. If you show interest in any golf clubs, please contact us via email or livehelp. We will make a reply asap.

The Pope met with his cardinals to discuss a proposal from the prime minister of Israel.

"Your Holiness," said one of the Cardinals, "The Israeli prime minister wants to challenge you to a game of golf to show the friendship and ecumenical spirit shared by the Jewish and Catholic faiths."

The Pope thought it was a good idea, but he had never held a golf club in his life. "Have we not," he asked, "a cardinal who can represent me against the leader of Israel?"

"None that plays golf very well," a cardinal repied. "But ..." he said, deep in thought, "what if we offered to make Jack Nicklaus a cardinal? We can offer to make him a cardinal, then ask him to play the Israeli prime minister as your personal representative. In addition to showing our spirit of cooperation, we'll also win the match."

Everyone agreed it was a good idea. The call was made. Nicklaus was greatly honored and agreed to play.

The day after the match, Nicklaus reported to the Vatican to inform the Pope of the result. "I have some good news and some bad news, Your Holiness," said Nicklaus.

"Tell me the good news first, Cardinal Nicklaus," said the Pope.

"Well, Your Holiness, I don't like to brag, but even though I've played some pretty terrific rounds of golf in my life, this was the best I have ever played, by far. I must have been inspired from above. My drives were long and true, my irons were accurate and purposeful and my putting was perfect. With all due respect, my play was truly miraculous."

"There's bad news?" the Pope asked.

Nicklaus sighed. "I lost to Rabbi Woods by three strokes."

No matter if you manage or own a private club or a daily fee club, the experience your patrons have while visiting your greens is the most important aspect of managing a golf club. The problem you may have in perfecting the experience of your golf club may actually be where to start. There are so many different facets to consider and many of those are challenging to overcome or smooth out.

The management team for your golf club needs to be well versed in customer service, retaining quality employees, agronomy and playability of your course, food and beverage management, golf operations management, information technology solutions and management, financing, development, and of course accounting and systems services. This is a lot for one person, or even a small team of people to stay on top of, especially in fast paced, trying economic times. This is where hiring a golf club management consultant may be the best decision.

Yes, hiring a consultant is an additional expense, and something that you may not want to take on during a recession, but when business is slow changes are easier to make and implement. Additionally, the correct consultant has the know how to change a slow season in a recession to a busy season in a recession.

The correct golf management consultants are ones that understand all facets of running a high end, successful, busy, and customer-centric golf course. These consultants know how to manage each facet and turn it from a separate piece of your business into a smooth running machine where all the parts work in unison. For instance, most courses offer golf, of course, and some sort of beverage and food service on location. The right consultant can show you how to have both aspects of your course run smoothly and work together, so that customers are playing golf and eating breakfast, lunch, dinner, or having a drink and a snack.

Golf management consultants can also show you how creating the correct agronomy for your area can increase the quality of your course and increase the playability. Second probably only to customer service, playability is very noticeable to your customer. If the course is not up to par, then customers do not return; giving them every reason to return again and again is the reason to hire a golf management consultant.

The secret to reaching your scoring goals is to focus on improving the weak areas common to your handicap group. You'll find these — and the means to fix them. The final step is to add some flexibility and mild strength training to your practice. Whether you're a 30-handicapper looking to get to a 20, or a 10-handicapper shooting for single digits, the name of today's game is athleticism. Following this detailed exercise program will pay immediate dividends.

Perform the stretches recommended for your handicap group three times a week, holding each stretch position for 5 seconds and repeating each stretch 10 times. If you're not sure what your body can take, start with the 30-handicap stretches, even if you're a low-handicapper. You can work up to the more challenging stretches. It'll take you just 20 minutes a day to make serious improvements in your athleticism, which is the key to reaching the next level.

Some of these exercises require elastic Therabands or an inflatable exercise ball, both of which are available at most sporting goods stores. They're worthwhile investments if you're serious about improving.

2. I need more accuracy

The Problem
You're making contact all over the clubface because you're hunched over at address, causing you to feel crowded at impact or "thrust" toward the ball through the hitting zone.

Why It's Happening
You have poor pelvic tilt control and inefficient core strength. Without these, you can't hold your positions throughout your swing, especially with longer clubs and faster swings.

The Solution
Perform the stretches below. Start with the one matched to your handicap group.

30+ Handicap: Pelvic Tilts
Lie on your back. Try to rotate your pelvis back while simultaneously flattening your back, then rotate in the opposite direction. As you perform this drill, suck in your stomach for more focused training on your core.

20- to 30-Handicap: 5-Iron Pelvic Tilts
Assume your address position with a 5-iron in your hands. Rotate your pelvis forward — just your pelvis. You should feel like you're slowly "thrusting" toward the ball, and that the top of your back is curving. Then, rotate in the opposite direction by pulling your pelvis back. This time, it should feel like your lower back is curving.

10- to 20-Handicap: Hip Flexor Stretch
While standing, grab your left ankle with your left hand and pull your left heel to you rear. Then, extend your right arm up and out, like you're hailing a cab. Hold, then switch sides.

< 10-Handicap: Segmented Rolling
Lie on your back with your knees bent and your feet flat on the floor. Help yourself up and bring your chest to your knees. While in this position, place your arm across your chest. Then, slowly allow your trunk to move backward. Fight gravity all the way back to the floor. Help yourself back up to your knee and repeat 10 times.

Being a golf nut it was natural for me to collect a number of books on the subject. In fact I have thirty two. This collection is eclectic in the sense that it covers about every aspect of the game that has been written about. Some of these books were given to me, but most were purchased over my years of chasing this crazy game. (Or is it the game makes you crazy?)

For the interest of other golf nuts looking for a good book on the game to read, I have categorized my collection by subject. Admittedly, you can argue about my categorization, but it should provide some help to anyone looking for a particular aspect of the game. Below my collection is divided into the following categories.

• Historical (Old writings on the game)
• Collections of Commentaries and Quotes by Writers and Players
• Instruction
• The Mental Side of the Game
• Course Architecture
• Humor

Historical: These are reprints of three of the oldest known books on the game.

Rules of the Thistle Golf Club by John Cundell, 1824. This is a copy of the first book on golf, which contains an attempt to set down a history of the game, as well as the rules in force at the time the book was written.

A Few Rambling Remarks on Golf by Robert Chambers, 1862. This book is the third book on the game ever published and gives Mr. Chambers thoughts on instruction as well as the playing rules.

Tee Shots and Others by Bernard Darwin, 1911. A collection of Bernard Darwin's essays. Darwin was a first rate player who never lost his passion for the game. He was known for never quoting a player. Once when asked if he was going to attend an interview of a new British Open Champion, he huffed, "My readers want to know why I think he won, not why that fool thinks he won.

The next category is a collection of writings, commentaries and anecdotes by and about golfers of all kinds and shapes.

A Passion For Golf, edited by Schuyler Bishops, 1998. A collection of pieces written by the best sports writers of the last fifty years revealing the inseparable relationship between this game and life.

Great Golf Stories, edited by Robert Trent Jones, 1982. A comprehensive collection of writing about the game. It offers the best that has been written with a running commentary from one of the greatest course architects.

"And Then Jack Said to Arnie", edited by Don Wade, 1991. Don Wade has been covering the professional tour and collecting true stories about the players and the game since 1970. This is a collection of his stories.

The Quotable Golfer, edited by Gary McCord, 2000. This book is a rich compendium of quotes that reflect the history, tradition, agony and thrills of the game from Will Rogers to Tiger Woods.

Golf Instruction. No collection would be complete without books on instruction. I never kept all of the books on instruction that I bought, but these few that I have left include a couple of really good ones.

Tiger Woods - How I Play Golf by Tiger Woods, 2001. Tiger Woods how to play the game. Need I say more?

Classic Golf Instruction by Christopher Obetz, 2005. Lessons by Jack Nicklaus and others featuring the amazing drawings by Anthony Ravielli. Ravielli's drawing reward the reader with incredible vision of the golfing body at work.

Harvey Penick's Little Red Book by Harvey Penick, 1992. Harvey Penick's notebook from his years of teaching. It gives his practical wisdom cutting away the technicalities and helps golfers play their best.

Fit For Golf by Gary Player, 1995. One hundred exercises that will improve your game.
Elements of Scoring by Raymond Floyd, 1998. Raymond Floyd's lessons on how to get the ball into the cup with the fewest strokes.

See It & Sink It by Dr.Craig Farnsworth, 1997. An instructional book on how to improve your putting by teaching you how to see the line better and stroke the ball into the hole.

The Impact Zone by Bobby Clampett, 2007. This book is a unique guide to teach a golfer to understand how to improve his swing to achieve better impact of his club to his ball.

Think Like Tiger by John Andrisani, 2002. An analysis of Tiger Woods mental game based on John Andrisani's experience as Tiger's teacher from age 10 to 18 and his interaction with Tiger's family and acquaintances during those years.

Golf Course Architecture is its own particular kind of design. Here are some books on it written by some of the great masters of the art as well as one from the younger generation.

Golf By Design by Robert Trent Jones, Jr. 1993. Jones leads golfers from tee to green detailing how architects set up challenges and offer the player strategies to meet these challenges.

Golf, As It Was Meant to be Played by Michael Fay, 2000. Scottish born Donald Ross designed more that 400 courses in the U.S. and Canada. In this book Michael Fay takes the reader on a walk through 18 of Ross's masterly designed holes chosen from courses in the U.S.

Golf Never Failed Me by Donald J. Ross, 1996. The lost commentaries of Donald Ross on architecture, course maintenance and everything else. These commentaries were written before 1914, meant to be published then but for some reason were never published. They came to light after Ross's death in 1948.

Sandy Lyle Takes You Around the Championship Courses of Scotland by Sandy Lyle with Bob Ferrier, 1982. Sandy Lyle takes the reader along the fairways and greens outlining the challenges of six of the greatest courses in Scotland. Several photographs and a schematic are shown for each hole described.

The Anatomy of a Golf Course by Tom Doaks, 1992. Tom Doaks discusses his craft and and explains the strategies behind an architects decisions in laying out a course and how he plans for the course to be played.

The Mental Side of the Game. Golf being the game it is does sometimes make players go nuts. It's been said that this game reflects all the positive and negative aspects of life. It's no wonder that this has been written about so much. Here are several books that cover the mental side of the game.

Golf and the Spirit by M. Scott Peck, 1999. In this book M. Scott Peck writes a book for beginners and masters alike. It goes beyond mechanics to explore the deeper issues, ways of managing the emotional psychological and spiritual aspects of this wonderful, maddening, deflating and inspiring game.

The Golfer's Guide to the Meaning of Life by Gary Player, 2001. Gary Player's fifteen lessons from "Why Play Golf" through "Sportsmanship" and "Motivation" ending with "The Game Eternal".

Golf Dreams by John Updike, 1996. John Updike reflects on the game and its mental challenges.

Golf For Enlightenment by Deepak Chapra, 2003. This book is an engrossing story about Adam, who is playing a terrible round, when he meets a young teaching pro named Leda. In seven short but profound lessons she teaches Adam the essence of the game that explains much about life itself.

A Good Walk Spoiled by John Feinstein, 1995. John Feinstein has written an account of a professional golfer's life on the PGA tour.

Links by Lorne Rubenstein, 1991. Links is about the essence and the mystique and intrigue of the game, and the magic that draws people from around the world to it.

Finally, golf humor. If you play regularly, you need to have a sense of humor about the game and particularly about your game. Here are some of the most humorous books on it ever written.

Divots, Shanks, Gimmes, Mulligans and Chili Dips by Glen Waggoner, 1993. The first half of this book is about Waggoner's life on the pro tour as a writer and observer. The second half covers the life of a hacker, club throwing and every thing else.

Golfmanship by Stephen Potter, 1968. Humorous lessons on gambits and ploys a player can use to win.

The Down Hill Lie by Carl Hiassen, 2008. Carl Hiassen's chronicle of his shaky return to the game after a 30 year absence and the ensuing demolition of his self-esteem will leave you rolling in laughter. A book for all lovers of the game.

Golf a la Carte by Peter Dobereiner, 1991. A collection of some of the best works of Peter Dobereiner, dean of golf writers and surely one of the funniest men ever to stroke a pen and swing a club.

The Art of Coarse Golf by Michael Green, 1967. Humorous anecdotes about a hacker's experiences on the course.

And probably the prize of my collection of golf humor:

The Golf Omnibus by PG. Wodehouse, 1914. Thirty one humorous tales from the fairway to the putting green from club house to sand trap by the master of comic fiction.

I hope you ejoyed looking through my collection. It should keep you reading about the game for some time, and I hope provide some laughs along the way.

Golf brands introduction: TaylorMade

When it comes to the world golf brands, we can not to ignore the TaylorMade, but do you really know this brand too much?

In 1998, three of the biggest sports equipment brands merged: TaylorMade, Salomon and Adidas. Adidas produces sports shoes and sports clothing, and has sales that are over six billion dollars a year. It is best known for football. Salomon meanwhile is best known for its contribution to the world of snowboarding and skiing. And TaylorMade is of course, best known for golf clubs, now considered the No.1 most used driver in the world of men's professional golf.

Together, these companies gave birth to Taylor Made golf clubs, of which the r580 woods, the RAC series of irons, and Rossa Putters come to mind.

Early last year, players using TaylorMade drivers recorded a total of 18 victories on the 5 men's tours-statistics which have never been matched to-date by any other brand!

By mid-2004, golf luminaries Sergio Garcia, Retief Goosen, Mike Weir, Hale Irwin, Natalie Gulbis, Kenny Perry, Fred Couples and Se Ri Pak started showing up in competitions with their TaylorMades. TaylorMade also manufactures fairway woods, irons, wedges and putters.

PS: You can have a driver from TaylorMade, fairway woods from Callaway, irons from Mizuno, wedges from Cleveland and a Scotty Cameron putter-but this might affect your consistency in the game.

So, the question come here again, which brands do you want to choose? Nick? Callaway? Ping? Or any brands? Waiting for you comment for your favorite golf brands on our website.

Golf is a magnificent game of concentration and skill, you need both to be working in harmony with each other in order to succeed and hit the ball exactly where you want it to go. There are times though that even the most seasoned pro golfer can hit a poor shot and it can go wildly out of control into the rough, or worse.

Sometimes a miss-hit shot can cause damage to other people’s property such as a car parked in the club car park or the old favourite; a neighbouring greenhouse. It’s no laughing matter though as many golfers can hit the ball high and long which gives the ball plenty of momentum to cause serious damage.

Another possibility is that you hit another golfer out on the course. All golfers know the convention of waiting for the player/s on the hole in front of you to finish and vacate the green before you take your shot. Unfortunately though with some courses doubling back on themselves and many holes packed into a small space you could hit or be hit by another golfer’s ball if you, or they, aren’t careful.

It used to be the case that you could warn others of a miss-hit shot by yelling the word “fore!” it isn’t a legal responsibility to warn other players but many players subscribe to the thought that it should be and so you will often hear players doing each other the common courtesy of yelling “fore” when hitting a poor shot.

If you are unlucky enough to strike a fellow golfer with your ball there’s a good chance they will require medical attention and perhaps even a spell in hospital. Medical bills will need paying by whoever was at fault. In order to make sure that you are not left out of pocket as a result of this a specialist golf insurance policy may be the answer.

Golf Insurance may sound odd but you’d be surprised how expensive golfing could be without it. Your clubs for instance can be costly to replace especially if you are an experienced golfer and have invested in some cases over £300 on a single club alone.

Golf Insurance can cover the medical costs that could happen as a result of a miss-hit golf ball, as well as any damage to homes and property if you’ve hit a bad shot. There are many other instances where golf insurance can be useful as some policies cover golf buggies as well as cover for your golf clubs if they are stolen.

Titleist Scotty Cameron Studio Select Kombi Putter features the Studio Select 3-point weighting system and thick face for deep CG, creating a balanced putter that is stable throughout the stroke for forgiveness and great roll. It is precision milled from 6061 aircraft aluminum and has a clean, misted topline along with high-contrast sight lines making alignment easy.

Description

The Titleist Scotty Cameron Studio Select Kombi Mid putter is constructed of precision milled 6061 Aircraft Aluminum with Studio Select weighting technology. Its 3-point weighting system and thick face provide unmatched feel, feedback, and sound while providing a deep center of gravity perfectly balances the putter for stability throughout the stroke. It also features a double-bend shaft with full-shafft offset, and high-contrast sight lines for precise alignment.

Feature

The Scotty Cameron Studio Select Kombi™ putters add advanced mallet designs in Standard (33", 34", 35"), Mid (42" 43", 44") and Long (48", 50") models to the Studio Select family.

Studio Select Kombi putters feature Studio Select heel and toe weighting technology to ensure proper headweight-to-length properties and provide multiple length options per model. A third weighting point (factory adjustable for Kombi, non- adjustable for Kombi Mid or Kombi Long) pushes the CG deep to stabilize the putter throughout the stroke for a great roll and unmatched feel and sound.

The player-preferred shape flows into the ground from topline to rear, giving the Studio Select Kombi putters a pleasing look in the playing position. The clean, misted topline with high-contrast T-shaped sightline reduces visual thickness and makes face alignment easy. Additionally, Studio Select Kombi putters feature a clean, double-bend stepless shaft with a full shaft of offset for an unobstructed look at address.

Studio Select Kombi H putters, available in 34" and 35" models, feature a heavier head (+10g) to provide a heavier feel preferred by some players. Studio Select Kombi H models are custom built at Titleist and are differentiated by a special Circle H shaft band.

The great show over East Lake Golf Club has a result now. Over $ 10 million goes to Tiger Woods, the world No.1 ranked golfer, while the $ 1.35 million Tour Championship goes to Phil Michelson. Tiger was disappointed that he lost the Tour Championship.

On historic East Lake Golf Club's last nine holes, with countless playoff scenarios in play and enough mind-boggling numbers crunching to make any accountant's head spin, six players had legitimate chances of winning the playoffs' grand prize of $10 million.

After the first two FedExCup playoffs finished with a thud — Woods and Vijay Singh had the titles basically wrapped up before the first tee shot of the tournament —- the third FedExCup delivered tension, excitement and possibility. It also delivered the game's two biggest stars to the trophy presentation.

At one time or another in the final round, Woods, Perry and Steve Stricker were leading the projected points race for the $10 million. Mickelson wound up second — good for a $3 million bonus — but was just concentrating on winning The Tour Championship.

"I want to see if I understand this right. I shot 65, and Tiger shot 70. He gets a check for $10 million?" joked Mickelson, who led the tournament with 20 birdies and had 36 one-putt greens. "I didn't play well the first three FedExCup events. I don't deserve to win the entire FedExCup just based on one tournament win. But boy, today was a lot of fun. I played one of the better rounds I played all year."

Woods, who has six wins this year, has played better rounds. Frustrated by the greens all tournament, he didn't make a charge until birdies on 15 and 16. By then, he needed to finish with two more birdies and a bogey from Mickelson on the final hole.

"I'm a little disappointed I didn't win the (Tour) Championship because I was right there," said Woods, who had 117 putts, 10 more than Mickelson. "But to win the FedExCup and to be as consistent as I have been all year is something that I'm very proud of.

"There were so many unknowns at the beginning of the season, and to play as consistently as I have — I think I have nine top-twos this year — I certainly wouldn't have expected that going into my first event, the (Accenture) Match Play, to end up where I'm at right now. I'm very proud of that and proud of what Hank has done and my trainers to get me to this point."

Still, the feeling wasn't quite the same as it was when he won the inaugural FedExCup in 2007. Back then, he won The Tour Championship by eight.

"It feels certainly not like it did a couple years ago when I won the tournament," said Woods, who also won $810,000 for finishing second in The Tour Championship to go with his $10 million bonus. "So yeah, that felt a little bit better than it did today. I hit the ball well enough to make a few more birdies, and I just didn't make any putts this week from about 10 to 20 feet. I missed a lot of putts."

Guide for parents how to choose the right kids golf club sets for your young golfer.

In recent years the amount of young golfers is increasing with a great speed. The Golf Industry does not stand still and take the rapidly developing events into account. Now parents have more options and can find a thousand of different brands on the market, different types of golf club sets manufactured especially for juniors, in consideration of their weight, arm length, height and other factors. The good thing is young golfers do not need to use golf clubs that were constructed for adult players any more. Actually there are too many different kids golf club sets to choose from – cheap or expensive, popular or unknown branded, top of the line sets, which professional players or trainers recommend or used golf club sets, so the final decision could be pretty difficult. This guide will help you to make the right choice for purchasing the golf club complete sets for your little golf-mate.

Parents are always clueless on what clubs their kids are actually need but it is very important to determine what kind of golf gear and equipment needed. The most important thing is to find clubs that would be appropriate to young golfer’s specifics. Many people who golf say that you have to do some research and spend time until you’ll figure out what kind of golf equipment to buy.

I'll will try to help you in this important task.

If do not take kids-champions into account, juniors are usually the beginners, so there would be a good idea to purchase used golf club sets to avoid burning a hole in your pocket in case your child are not serious about golf. Used kids golf club sets are more than appropriate for the majority of newcomers to the game. Kids and teenagers are always excited playing the first time but they usually loose enjoyment after a couple of games. New and expensive golf club set is usually a waste of money. Like new or almost new equipment could be a bargain, it’s cheaper than new but condition is very nearly perfect. But if you are gear up for the game with your kids regularly or decided to avoid any possible problems with used golf equipment, the best tip is to buy a new youth golf club sets. As is known, new is always better than used, no matter what you are going to purchase. The main criteria when choosing kids golf club sets is to make sure that they fit perfectly to your young golfer’s arm length, height, weight, age and swing speed.

Those who want to learn the game of golfing, or simply need to get much better at it, ought to consider the concept of signing up to a golfing instructional school. These colleges can mean a significant difference in how you approach the game next time you hit the course. Going to one of these teaching schools is something that's really worth the cash and time put into such an effort.

Among the selection of golfing instruction faculties there are to select from, nirvana golfing Academy ? Found in Orlando, Florida ( as well as Naples and Ft. Myers ) ? Is said to be a very powerful faculty which gives those looking for good instruction their money?s worth. This is a golfing instruction school that many consider one of the top colleges around. In Germany you can try several great golfing academies, where the sport of golfing is just as valued as in the United States.

The city of San Diego happens to boast 2 colleges that are at the pinnacle of the golfing instruction school world. The people there provide both a golfing education, and the information to achieve success in the executive suites of the golfing world, also. There are numerous careers to be had in the golfing industry, and they can prepare you for these challenges. Then, the city offers the skilled excellence of America's Mind Power golfing colleges, which teach golfers to reading greens in a manner that can be described as quite unique. For people that might have the opinion you need the perfect swing to excel on the links, Mind Power teachers don?t share this view. It isn?t important to focus on getting a grip on your swing as the core component of golfing success. This is only one of the philosophies that have gained Mind Power a major number of accolades nationally for its successes.
if you wish to receive top quality teaching and a good environment from a top golfing instruction school, then check out VIP golfing Academy. VIP is considered the biggest among many colleges to instruct their golfers in 1-on-1 strategies. This level of private service is a major part of what makes VIP golfing Academy a big success as a golfing instruction school.

In Germany you can go to most DGV ( like the PGA ) facilities and find top clubs, academies and all the royal facilities you could ask for, with scenic visitor attractions to boot.

there is a faculty out there that tends to the individual student quite well ? And that would be the Bird golfing Academy. With this academy, golfers receive a major level of personal attention from teachers, who provide scholars with instruction thru 1-on-1 and pairs techniques. From video research and swing techniques to an impressive ability to improve the golfers? Thought processes on the course, teachers at Bird use their personal touch to create an environment where scholars and teachers can develop lasting pro relationships.

So having taken the chance to taste some of the golfing instructional faculty options available, are you ready to give a golfing instruction school a shot at making you the kind of golfer that impresses on the course? Going to Germany try the great golf clubs there at kw golf or visit Why Get Instruction At A Golf Academy

The best golf swing for you and your golf game is far removed from what you have been told by the experts in the golf industry.

You only need to look at the golf swings of the top players and you will see the huge disparity between the way they all swing the golf club. Each swing is so individual, like a signature, that after watching the top players in action for some time, either in the flesh of on television, you would be able to identify who is swinging even if you only see their silouhette.

Ernie Els, Vijay Singh, Davis Love, Tiger Woods, Padraig Harrington, Retief Goosen all have quite distinct swings. Don’t get me wrong, all of these swings have much in common, particularly when it comes to the fundamentals like set up and alignment, grip etc.

But there the similarities end and each swing is different and reflects the players physical shape, their natural tempo and a lot of what they picked up when they first swing a club.

The lesson for you, the amateur golfer, is that your swing must reflect your tempo and your physical shape and you should not beat yourself up trying to swing the golf club like your hero, who is generally a finely tuned athlete with remarkable hand/eye co-ordination who has been reared on the practice range.

So find a golf swing that you are comfortable with and suits where you are in life now and enjoy your golf..this is the best golf swing for you and don’t beat yourself over the head with golf swing analysis.

Callaway has a long record of making golf clubs designed for an players strengths and to make up for their drawbacks. The golf clubs Callaway has engineered use the best technology so that each ability level is met. Used by the PGA's best, Callaway will forever be related to the ultimate in golfing ability. They have set the industry standard in drivers and are solely responsible for developing the now famous Big Bertha.

The Fusion Technology drivers are golf clubs Callaway has made use of a multi-faceted design for. They target each aspect of the club, like the inertia that occurs when the club contacts the ball, the height, depth and center of balance, the center of gravity bias, face design, loft of the ball and the way the club lays. All of these crucial sides of how the club hits the ball are taken into consideration so that the optimum force and distance is achieved.

The Big Bertha is Callaway's famous driver with hyperbolic face technology. The weight has been engineered in the exact locations that will let the player achieve the highest and longest ball flights possible . There is also a set of Big Bertha irons for guys that behave the same way by offering a large head for shot forgiveness.

Golf clubs Callaway has for women, include the Big Bertha that has been engineered particularly for a girl's swing style and power. It is a titanium driver that is just light enough so that the velocity of the swing isn't reduced. Callaway also has the Big Bertha irons that have been developed just for girls and supply more forgiveness for off-center shots.

The Callaway X-Series has once more set the industry standard for MOI and CG. Weight has been distributed for unbeatable performance and distance control.

The golf clubs Callaway has designed to be similar to hybrids are the FT i-brids. They may be employed to hit long distance shots where a 3 wood or four iron would often be used. The i-brids give a larger margin of error for those long distance shots. Callaway has proven to have the newest invention so the golfer, either learner, handicapper or professional will always be at the pinnacle of their game.
.

the oldest and best brand of golf clubs is Callaway. It has many products! Especially,Callaway X-20 Iron Set, you can see it athttp://www.mysurbuy.com/goods-1318-Callaway+X-20+Iron+Set.html

Irons crafted to give you the world’s most forgiving performance
Experience the same great playability that X Series Irons are known for with technology, innovation and playability design elements that take them – and your game – to the next level.

Progressive Wall Reduction System
Callaway Golf engineers lowered the center of gravity (CG) an additional 6 percent, progressively, throughout the X-20 set (over the X-18 Irons) for improved feel.

Extreme Notch Weighting and 360-Degree Undercut Channel
Extreme Notch Weighting redistributes more weight to the extreme perimeter of the clubhead, creating a high moment of inertia (MOI) for greater forgiveness and more stability. The 360-Degree Undercut Channel maximizes perimeter weighting by moving the CG lower and farther back in the clubhead, enlarging the hitting area and stabilizing the clubhead for more forgiveness.

Variable Face Thickness (VFT) Technology
VFT Technology maximizes ball speed and perimeter weighting for more distance and forgiveness. It allows Callaway Golf engineers to raise or lower the CG for optimum trajectory with each iron in the set, giving a higher launch angle in the long irons and better trajectory height in the short irons and wedges.

Tiger leads PGA Championship! Tiger finishes reound one without any Bogeys and with FIVE Birdies to post a field leading 67! Harrington, playing with Tiger, finishes with one blemish at the #1 hole (tenth hole of thier round) also with FIVE Birdies lurks but one stroke back! The late Tee Time starter in the field include some big names who will have contend with Woods atop the leaderboard throughout thier round unless someone can string a lot of Birdies together early.

"Something I've always believe in is just keep yourself around," Woods said. "You don't have to be eight ahead after the first round. Just got to keep plodding along. Major championships are set up so they're difficult. They beat you into making mistakes. And the whole idea is not to make many mistakes."

A few tees were moved forward to account for the wind. Even so, Hazeltine played 7,660 yards from the tee to the hole, and Woods made some of his best birdies with long clubs. He opened his scoring with a 3-iron to 20 feet at No. 12, and picked up three birdies on the par 5s, including a 3-wood to a back bunker of the 651-yard 15th, with a breeze at his back.

He took the outright lead on the par-5 seventh with a 349-yard tee shot, followed by a 6-iron to 30 feet.

"He's human," Allenby said. "And the golf course is in front of all of us. And obviously, he's the best in the world, so we expect him to win, because he's the best. He should. But you know what? It's three more days to go. And a lot can happen."

Woods knows better than most that the tournament is far from over. He was atop the leaderboard at consecutive majors in 1998 after the opening round and watched someone else hoist the trophy.

Still, it was a powerful start.

"There's a lot of guys out here that can hang with him when they're playing their best," Rory McIlroy said after a 71. "But the thing is, Tiger plays his best most of the time. And even when he doesn't play his best, he usually wins."

There is more excitement to a Tourney that is hotly contested than a match that has only a question of a course record in contention. Padraig and Tiger both opened with 5 Birdies. Woods leads by being Bogey free while Harrington suffered but one blemish in the round. I hope to see them fighting tooth & nail like this through Sunday!

I have never seen a Tournament where the final pairing from the previous week, starts the next one paired and remains paired all four days due to thier scoring. That would be unique perhaps.

When I recently tested the TaylorMade's new Burner irons, I could not help but feel that these eight irons probably will be the best launch of the company in 2009.

Dramatically improved SuperFast Technology incorporates progressive COR, MOI and shaft length. Advanced Multi-Functional sole design, progressively thicker toplines together with the sophisticated cavity-badge which delivers super-soft feel and sound make it longer and easier to hit.

The Burner Irons including eight weapons are separately designed for their own mission. Long-irons, middle-irons and short-irons were all designed separately . TaylorMade's iron-creation team started with the 4-iron and the goal to make it forgiving and long. That was made possible by:

Thinning the club face as much as possible to make it more flexible and faster for higher COR. A custom 450 stainless steel alloy is used for added strength, allowing 1.9 mm thickness across most of the face.

Incorporating Inverted Cone Technology into the back of the club face to promote increased ball-speed on off-center hits.

Increasing the size of the head by expanding the perimeter, which helps increase the MOI to a higher level than any previous TaylorMade iron.

Increasing the width of the sole (unusual for a long-iron) to pull the CG location low and far-back away from the clubface.

Increasing the degree of offset to make it easier to square the face at impact.

Thickening the top-line to give the appearance of more mass behind the ball at address, to inspire more confidence. Outfitting it with a lightweight, longer-length shaft and lightweight grip.
It is believed this golf club will be the most-played irons on tour.

The Edinburgh International Festival brings the Scottish capital city of Edinburgh alive in a swathe of colours and sounds every August and draws visitors from across the globe to the city, to experience a wealth of diverse entertainment.

The Edinburgh Festival is actually a collective term for the numerous smaller festivals which take place around the city during the month, bringing a range of theatre, opera, music, comedy and arts to the capital. As you might expect, Edinburgh can become a rather bustling and sometimes noisy city during the festival month so what better way to escape from the maddening crowds than heading for the fairways of any of Edinburgh’s golf courses?

In fact, many people who visit the festival do so on a short golf break and so combine the two activities; playing golf in the mornings and then setting off into the city to catch a show and/or a bite to eat. What’s more, many of the festival’s shows run until late in the evening and in some cases even the small hours of the morning, so there’s plenty of time to do both.

Take a walk through the Meadows or down the Royal Mile where numerous performances take place all around, from fire-eaters and jugglers to magic acts and street musicians and mimes all competing for attention, while many clubs increase their opening hours well into the morning.

If you’re one of those people looking to combine the festival with the fairways of Edinburgh on a golf break, then there are plenty of options to choose from. If you’re after opulent elegance at a top class golfing venue away from the bustle of the city centre then the Marriot Dalmahoy Hotel and Country Club should be high on your list. This four-star establishment has two golf courses on its estates – the East and West courses – with the East course playing host to the Solheim Cup in 2002. Dalmahoy has also staged the Scottish PGA and Scottish Seniors Open and provides a fair, if long, test for golfers. Dalmahoy is also situated a short bus or taxi ride from Edinburgh International Airport and the Waverley rail station while a regular bus service passes the front gate of the estate every fifteen minutes, linking Edinburgh with the nearby town of Livingston.

For those wishing to stay closer to the action of the festival but still tread the fairways then look for Edinburgh golf tours which list such courses as Craigmillar Park Golf Club, Braid Hills and Kings Acre Golf Club among its itinerary.

One of the best benefits of combining a golf break in Edinburgh with a visit to the festival, is the guarantee of accommodation as the hotels, hostels and bed and breakfast in and around the capital fill up quickly at festival time and remain booked throughout the month, meaning bed space is scarce. But with a golf break, you can rest assured you’ll have a place to rest your head at the end of the day.

So, if you’re considering paying a visit to Scotland’s capital for the festival, why not combine it with a golf break to play some of the city’s best courses as well as taking in some of the best independent entertainment you’ll find anywhere in the world.

Are you interested in golfing? If you are interested in the game and you are planning to start playing it. Then here are a few golf tips beginner must know.

One, you have to the right stance. This is very important when it comes to swinging your club. This is the solid base that you are going to rotate from and is the core of your swing. Having the right stance will give you a solid foundation upon which your swing is constructed. This will also help you maintain balance when swinging. If you are unbalanced, this will lead to an irregular and uneven swing. This will lead to you having difficulty in hitting good long straight shots.

A good stance is when your feet should be shoulder width apart. But, you can also have them slightly closer or wider apart depending on your preference. The most important thing is that you feel comfortable. The ball should be in line with the middle of your feet. And, place the club behind the ball. This is the basic structure of the stance.

Two, you will need to buy the right set of equipment. If you are just beginning with the game, do not buy an expensive and fancy golf set. You might end up buying the wrong set of equipment for you. Many people always have the wrong impression that they must have 14 clubs all the time. But, this is not true because 14 is just the maximum amount of clubs that people are allowed to have especially in golf competition. And, for people who are starting out, fewer clubs are usually better.

Golfers usually need to have wood clubs in their bags. There are different types of wood clubs. There are the driver, the 3-wood club and the 5-wood club. So, you have to be able to determine, which club you can hit the best out of the three. You also have to determine what long iron club that you can hit best with. There are usually 3-6 types of irons.

Similar with the wood club, you also have to choose one that suits you. You also have to choose between the 7-9 short iron clubs. After choosing clubs that suits you, discard the other clubs from your bags and just play with clubs that you can hit best with. And, you need wedges and a putter for your set.

And lastly, golf tips for beginners must know is that they have to take lessons from a professional and then practice what you have learned. You must bear in mind that it will take many lessons and practice for you to be able to hit just one club well in your golf club. For beginners, fewer clubs are better because it means fewer clubs to learn. More clubs usually takes a long time to learn and this can be quite frustrating.

In addition, good golf tips beginner includes instructional videos as well.

Titleist Pro V1: Still Golf’s Top Ball

It’s a little hard to believe, but it’s already been nearly nine years since the Titleist Pro V1® golf ball made its official PGA Tour debut at the 2000 Invensys Classic in Las Vegas.

The exact date was October 11, 2000, and it was the first week the new Titleist golf ball was available to Tour pros. As if on cue, longtime Titleist Tour pro Billy Andrade went on to win the tournament playing the Pro V1.

Titleist’s top-of-the-line golf ball franchise—both the Pro V1 and Pro V1x™—has been going strong ever since.

For example, more than 43 percent of the money in 2006 on-course golf ball sales was spent on these Titleist models. Titleist has held its position as the best-selling ball since March 2001.

What’s New in 2009?

As a longtime best-seller, Titleist has not rested on its laurels. Each year the company has sought to make improvements to its Titleist golf ball franchise, and 2009 is no different. Following is a look at the newest versions of the highly popular Titleist models.

Titleist Pro V1

The Titleist Pro V1x™ has a three-piece multi-layer construction that’s designed to increase distance and improve cover durability and performance. According to Titleist, players will hit the new model farther—especially with the driver—and the ball will also take more of a beating.

It’s also billed as a ball that will help players score better, which makes perfect sense if it improves one’s game from tee to green. But, of course, golfers also must putt well to shoot lower scores.

Titleist Pro V1x

The Titleist Pro V1x™ has a four-piece dual core construction that’s designed to decrease spin and increase distance. This ball is also longer than its predecessor, according to Titleist, and more durable, too. The scoring performance is marked “similar” as compared to the previous version.

Everyone wants distance, and both Titleist models are the best ball choice for most amateur golfers, says Titleist, since they offer the combination of distance and short-game scoring performance.

Based on strong sales figures year after year, Titleist has a solid case. And, in general, the reviews are also pretty favorable.

Dave Koster, a reviewer at TheSandTrap.com, said he’s been playing Titleist golf balls since the latter days of the Balata and first generation of Professionals.

Koster called himself “a loyal customer” who has been tempted once or twice to switch to other manufacturers but not made the jump. He said the newest update to the 2009 Titleist Pro V1 will keep his business for the foreseeable future.

“The only switch I can really conceive of making at this point would be from the Pro V1x to the Pro V1,” Koster wrote.

Of course, despite their overwhelming popularity, not everyone is a diehard fan of these Titleist golf ball models. A sampling of other comments around the Web indicated some were not as impressed by Titleist’s performance claims and others balked at the price.

ProV1 & ProV1x- Preferred by Tour Players

These Titleist models are the most used golf balls on all the world’s major golf tours, including the PGA Tour, European Tour, Japanese Tour, LPGA Tour, Asian Tour and Nationwide Tour.

Following are just some of the world’s premier golfers who tee up with these Titleist golf balls:

Angel Cabrera

Chad Campbell

Ross Fisher

Padraig Harrington

J.B. Holmes

Zach Johnson

Robert Karlsson

Davis Love III

Hunter Mahan

Rory McIlroy

Adam Scott
Steve Stricker

David Toms

Camilo Villegas

A Peek at the 2009 Golf Digest Hot List

Whether you’re a golf equipment fanatic or just a casual observer of the latest offerings and trends in golf clubs and accessories, the 2009 Golf Digest Hot List is a golf equipment smorgasbord. From drivers, fairway woods and hybrids, to irons, wedges and putters—oh, and bags and balls, too—the equipment gurus at Golf Digest break it down in their popular annual equipment ranking.

The Process

If you’re wondering how golf equipment experts rate, for example, Callaway drivers or TaylorMade irons, think Excel spreadsheets with thousands of data points, hundreds of pages of technical data from golf equipment manufacturers, scientists, a four-part judging criteria, and a two-week visit to a San Jose, California, resort for field testing.

The process is, in a word, exhaustive. Golf Digest evaluated the “universe” of golf clubs—471 entries, to be exact—and judged them across four weighted criteria: 1) performance (40%), 2) innovation (30%), 3) look/sound/feel (20%), and 4) demand (10%).

After all the facts and data were collected, the judges engaged in nine days of meetings that included 800 debates to arrive at the 116-club Hot List. Along the way, they ate a lot of take-out food.

Following is a peek at this year’s list.

Drivers

Golf Digest breaks down the golf drivers category into two parts: drivers over $350 and drivers under $350. Then it splits the two categories into gold and silver winners.

Three of the gold winners in the over $350 category are the Callaway FT-9, PING Rapture V2 and the TaylorMade r7 Limited.

No one is better than Callaway at using multiple materials, said the judges about the FT-9. Players like the look, balance and carry of the PING Rapture V2, which has a similar look to the PING G10. The TaylorMade r7 Limited has movable weights and features an Ozik shaft. Some said it produces the best feel of any club on the market.

Gold winners in the under $350 category included Adams Speedline, Callaway Big Bertha Diablo, PING G10 and TaylorMade Burner.

Irons

Irons were broken into three categories that correspond with playing ability and interests: game improvement, super game improvement and players irons.

Gold winners in the game-improvement category included Callaway X-22, PING G10 and TaylorMade Burner. One player said he could hit the Callaway X-22 irons blindfolded. Sign me up, he said. Callaway X-22 led in the Demand category, which is an assessment of reputation, interest, intrigue and excitement. The PING G10 is a long-time category leader, and the TaylorMade Burner irons really shined, leading in three of the four judging categories: performance, innovation and look/sound/feel.

TaylorMade also had a gold winner in the super game improvement category: the Burner Plus, which features an oversized clubhead and hefty offset to help get the golf ball in the air.

In the players irons category, Titleist AP2 rose to the top, along with TaylorMade Tour Preferred, Callaway X-22 Tour, Callaway X-Forged and PING S57 models, four among the total of six gold winners.

Putters

Arguably, there’s no golf club more important than the putter. Golf Digest took a close look at two main categories: blade putters and mallet putters.

Gold winners in the blade putter category over $200 included the Odyssey Black Series I #6, TaylorMade Daytona TP-KIA MA and Titleist Cameron Studio Select, which led in three of four criteria: performance, look/sound/feel and demand.

In the blade putter category under $200, top picks were the Odyssey White Hot Tour 1, two PING Anser models and the TaylorMade Daytona.

Gold winners in the mallet putter category included the Odyssey Black Series I 2-Ball, PING iWi Craz-E and TaylorMade Itsy Bitsy Spider. And leading mid-mallet putters were Odyssey, Titleist Cameron and MacGregor models.

Bags

Hot List judges took a look at lightweight carry bags and “do it all” cart bags, selecting their 21 favorites. Leading the list of gold and silver winners were models from Callaway, PING, TaylorMade, Titleist, Bag Boy, Nike, Ogio, Sun Mountain, Wilson and Izzo.

What Tour Pros Play

What do the top tour professionals play? Following is just a sampling.

Callaway: Phil Mickelson, Ernie Els, Annika Sorenstam

TaylorMade: Kenny Perry, Sergio Garcia, Paula Creamer

PING: Angel Cabrera, Lorena Ochoa, Hunter Mahan

Titleist: Steve Stricker, Zach Johnson, Adam Scott
