college golf question?

Do college golf teams let players try out or does it work like basketball or football where unless your a top player on your school team and every coach in the every coach in the area has heard of you then they probably wont want you on the team? The reason i ask this is because im an aspiring golfer and im from where i live it would be a 2 day drive to get to any school with an NCAA golf team.

Most teams will let you try out, but the top notch teams usually do not. You need to write/call the coach and send him your resume with all of your tournament scores. If he thinks your any good, he might look at you. There are many good golf programs that are not even in the NCAA. Some NAIA and JUCO programs are solid. If the D1s won't offer you, you should go to a good JUCO and then try and play D1 after the two years.
