We are Golfers!

A few weeks back on my blog, http://blog.golfdiehard.com I discussed the recent passing of Benji Hogan, famed companion of Dennis Walters.  Dennis is a disabled golfer who continues to play the game he loves despite losing his ability to walk many years ago.  Dennis found new ways to play and has inspired countless people to do what many believed was improbable, play golf.  I view golf as a game which enables anyone to challenge themselves each time they tee up.

The recent GolfWorld article, "Recovery Shots" by Leonard Shapiro, discusses how wounded veterans are playing the game with the use of prosthetics, mental strength and sheer determination.  I cannot underscore how much I enjoyed reading the stories of our heroes from war, who have found a renewed zest for living and some peace in golf.

In golf, we use the term "handicap" to tell someone our playing ability.  The word "disabled" has replaced the word "handicapped" when we are referring to someone with an impairment, relative to the standard.  The irony is golf has become a game in which virtually anyone can play regardless of their disability.  The game actually enables people to compete or play without limits.  A birdie is always a birdie no matter who gets one.

The USGA, PGA and LPGA have been very proactive in providing funds to support programs which encourage disabled persons to play golf or continue to improve their abilities.

The next time you tee it up and having a frustrating day on the links, remember some fellow golfers are truly thankful they are out there with you.  Be thankful as well!

Five Factors that Will Improve Your Golf Game

Are you seeing the same decrease in your handicap that reflects your hard work and efforts? Do you consistently fall short on your drives or feel exhausted at the end of 18 holes? Do you carry the disappointment of a missed putt over into the next hole? If you are plagued with problems like these then it is time to give your golf game a boost. Change your golf game for the better by focusing on the following five areas: flexibility, strength, endurance, nutrition, and mental toughness.

Flexibility:

Have you ever rushed to the golf course, quickly stepped up to the tee and felt stiff when you swung your golf club? Warming up your muscles can help relieve stiffness, but it is better to be more proactive in your approach. Therefore, it is essential to stretch on a regular basis. This allows you to increase and maintain your flexibility. You only need a small investment of your time in order to see significant gains in your range of motion.

Strength:

Have you incorporated strength training into your exercise routine? Many golfers are tempted to swing as hard as possible when hitting the golf ball. There are several adverse side effects of doing this. Your muscles may not be physically prepared for the intense strain and you may become injured. Increasing strength will enable your body to tackle the demands of the golf swing and prepare it for the action ahead.

Endurance:

Do you lose your intensity or feel tired after a few holes? If so, then focus on your endurance. At first glance, golf may not appear to be a game in which aerobic fitness is necessary. However, golfers that walk the course can walk nearly five miles over the course of 18 holes. Try to work in 20-45 minutes, 3-5 days per week of cardiovascular activity.

Nutrition:

Your body needs the proper fuel to work efficiently. Common sense dictates that loading up on junk food is a bad idea. So what exactly should you eat? An optimal sports nutrition menu plan will include high quality carbohydrates, lean protein, fruits, vegetables, and plenty of water.

Mental Toughness:

Are you still thinking about the drive you sliced on the first hole as you set up to tee off at the second hole? This negative thought pattern will adversely affect your game. How you perceive the situation affects each shot. One way to increase your mental toughness is not to relive missed shots. Visualize a good shot to help erase the missed shot from your mind.

Take these five facts into account and you'll likely see better results with your game. It will take some time to make these activities a habit, but will be well worth the effort.

The best thing about "The simple Golf Swing" is that it is a system. Most golfers swing at the ball, but never really THINK about what they did wrong, or more importantly, what they did right.
Thinking about the possible corrections usually will not work because there is always a little wrist cock, or a certain turning angle that could have influenced the good or bad result.
What a system does for your game is it allows you to proactively analyse each shot after you hit it and realize the result, good or bad.
For example, I hit the ball and it slices. Now most golfers are going to hit the ball again and slice it again. Maybe they hit a good ball every once in a while, but they will never know what MADE them hit the good shot.
With this system you will get 5 simple steps to go through for every swing you put on the ball. Now you will start to see trends developing, and you can always tie those trends back to one of the 5 steps you are most likely forgetting about which is causing the negative trend.
So in my example, I hit a slice. Now because I have this system in place, I automatically know what I have to concentrate on for the next shot. I know that I did one of 2 things. I let my body get ahead of my hands, or I failed to start the downswing with my arms. If I top the ball, I automatically know that I failed to keep my leading shoulder down on the ball.
So the point is that having simple but effective controls in place will really help your game. You will be really surprised how much you will learn about your own game, and how easy it is to develop and maintain good habits once you understand how to recognize them.

Simple Golf Tips - Review of The Simple Golf Swing

The best thing about "The Simple Golf Swing" is that it is a system. Most golfers swing at the ball, but never really THINK about what they did wrong, or more importantly, what they did right.

Thinking about the possible corrections usually will not work because there's always a little wrist cock, or a certain turning angle that could have influenced the good or bad result.

What a system does for your game is it allows you to proactively analyze each shot after you hit it and realize the result, good or bad.

For example, I hit the ball and it slices. Now most golfers are going to hit the ball again and slice it again. Maybe they hit a good ball every once in a while, but they'll never know what MADE them hit the good shot.

With this system you'll get 5 simple steps to go through for every swing you put on the ball. With the right dedication and applying the simple principles in the guide, you'll start to see trends developing, and you can always tie those trends back to one of the 5 steps you are most likely forgetting about--which is causing the negative trend.

So in my example, I hit a slice. Now because I have this system in place, I automatically know what I have to concentrate on for the next shot. I know that I did one of 2 things. I let my body get ahead of my hands, or I failed to start the downswing with my arms. If I top the ball, I automatically know that I failed to keep my leading shoulder down on the ball.

So the point is that having simple but effective controls in place will really help your game. You'll be really surprised how much you'll learn about your own game, and how easy it is to develop and maintain good habits once you understand how to recognize them.
